Going self employed - sole trader advice

Hi,
From January next year I will be going self employed as a mortgage broker.
Just looking for a bit of advice on the accounting side of things mainly in regards to what I can claim etc. I have done some research online but slot of info seems a bit contradictory.
I do have an appointment with an accountant but just looking for info from anyone who has been in my position or any accounts on here.
Thanks

See what the accountant tells you but make sure you're seeing a tax accountant as they will tell you the best way to do things like the way you claim travel costs because one method may not be as tax efficient as another. Like medicine accountancy has many fields and nobody is an expert in them all. Tax accountancy is a large field on its own so you need to see an accountant that specialises in it.
HMRC also from time to time run basic workshops through your local Business Link if its still running. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
