I've had 13k worth of payrises over 5 years through promotions but my company haven't given any yearly payrises to staff so if I hadn't been promoted I'd be earning the same as I was in 2011.0

Circa 45k gross, take home circa 1900 a month after tax, national insurance, student loan, and pension contributions.
Little scope for improvement any time soon, looking at a career change to something with better prospects.0 -

Similar situation. My deductions are more than my wife makes. There are opportunities for me but there really isnt much incentive to take on the extra responsibilities as even a significant pay rise wouldnt result in any noticeable improvement to monthly take home by the time the increased tax and student loan repayments are taken.0 -

Age in my mind ???? Questionable ha ha . Real life 45
Female
Earns - Not as much as would like and certainly not as much as my children spend.
Silly question really.
You could earn £20K have no mortgage, own your own home, no kids, and money in the bank.
Equally you could earn £40k, be paying child care, mortgage, and be considerably worse off.Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0 -
