more on Lloyds

somewhat of an extension to a recent thread

i've just spent an hour (on hold etc) to Lloyds insolvency-i was declared BR a month ago, no debts at all to Black Horse-account still active, the odd credit dripping in hence want to know what's going to happen

utterly hopeless, said my account would be closed at some point but no idea when, couldn't confirm whether I could have a basic account as this was on a branch by branch basis, no answer on how any credit would be refunded to me once the account is closed, also said they weren't actually the insolvency department but just fielded calls for them, the correct department didn't have a number but I could write to them....!!

ideally I would like a basic account with Lloyds because presume it would be easier to move direct debits etc, but happy to be advised otherwise-Barclays seems to crop up a lot in these discussions, I had sizeable debt to Barclaycard in my bankruptcy-would that matter?

grrrr

  • It shouldn't matter who you bank with nowadays most banks will transfer the money within an hour or two, if not fairly instantly.

Barclays are pretty BR tolerant and will let you open one of their basic accounts as a BR even with a debt in said BR. The other account is the Nationwide Flex Basic which seems to be a good account to have.

  • I've literally just opened a Nationwide FlexBasic account online, took minutes to do. Only reason I didn't go with Barclays is because they're one of my creditors, and was recommended to look for a different bank by StepChange

Once your bankrupt it makes no odds, but may as well build positive history with someone you haven't defaulted against, incase you want credit from them in future

Did you see my recent thread re Lloyds?

I opened an account with Nationwide today and it was a very positive experience. I was thinking of Barclays instead, but Nationwide offer contactless card, the ability to use Apple pay and I read they will consider you for a mortgage 3 years after BR if you bank with them (not sure how true that is though)

I think consider here is the operative word :) I don't know but I'd expect them to want to see better affordability and a lower loan to value, for us with less than perfect credit histories. Still this may well be more generous than other mainstream mortgage providers
