philips senseo

I found a senseo in a charity shop £5 :T I purchased to use as a hot water dispenser for my morning cuppa, however its not like my previous hot water dispenser that was instant, this you have to wait to heat up :(

I am not over keen on 'normal' coffee but don't mind a latte and love hot chocolate.

Are the latte/hot chocolate pods worth the expense? I have not seen them in supermarkets just bulk buy from amazon.

Also does anyone make tea with it? I was thinking of buying some round tea bags anyone tried this?

Thanks

I have a Senseo and love it. I have had the hot chocolate pods but for a latte (or similar) I use ordinary coffee pods (cheap in Lidl) and then just top up with milk and pop into microwave (or vice versa).

You won't be able to make proper tea with it because it doesn't give you boiling water.

You are right the water doesn't boil (didn't in my previous water dispenser either) however its fine for making a cuppa in the morning, I like mine with very little milk so it means I can drink it straight away (don't have time to wait for it to cool :rotfl:) Evenings I boil the kettle.

Good suggestion about lattes, I will get some pods and try that, thanks. Might treat myself to some syrup as well :D

I tried it with tea, a square Yorkshire tea bag (I just squashed it in)

It actually worked very well, the tea came out a nice strength, however it came out frothy :rotfl:drinking frothy tea is not something I will be doing again - unless anyone has any suggestions to stop the froth?

Put the bag in the cup?

I'm not keen on tea from mine - not hot enough. Mines a de longhi and @sda sell the pods, I like cafe au lait as lattes are a bit too milky for my liking. It's all to personal taste xx

Yes it works like that, its what I have been doing, using it as a water dispenser. Just would be nice if the tea came out ready brewed :)

You are right the tea doesn't come out hot enough for a decent cup but its perfect for quickness and ready to drink temperature for work day mornings.

    Update.

I got some senseo pods, there were expensive £3 for 18  and only two to choose from (strong and medium) :(

I made up a latte as per missbiggles instructions and omg it was lovely, so much better than any latte I have attempted to make with instant coffee.

I then ran the same pod through the machine again and this time made a normal coffee with a splash of milk and touch of sugar, as I don't like strong coffee, this was about the right strength for me and very MSE.

I did think about then using it again straight in the cup squeezing it like a tea bag but thought that might be a bit too tight :rotfl:

You can buy refillable pods for the Senseo. Been using them for years.
