Hi there, my other half has just lost his job and we're going through some options for our future. One option is that he retrains as a plumber but I'm a bit confused about what income support may be available. Our situation:
- own house with mortgage
- Me and him both late thirties, 10 year old child and 8 month baby
- I work 30 hours, taking home gross £28,000
- depending on hours of course, childcare will be needed during term times costing £320 a month
I've discovered why people say our benefits system is complicated, would it just be working and child tax credits we would be eligible for?
Thanks in advance for your help x

I seldom end up where I wanted to go, but almost always end up where I need to be

Your income is too high for WTC.
CTC will depend on the household income for last tax year and this tax year. It is unlikely for this tax year however.
Childcare help through tax credits would only be available if you both work at least 16hrs per week (unless your partner was incapacitated).0 -
Thank you. I've been on Statutory Maternity Pay for 3 months this year so wages slightly lower, so this may help.I seldom end up where I wanted to go, but almost always end up where I need to be0

Your probably need your total household income for this tax year to be under £30,0000 -
Make sure he claims contribution based jobseekers until he become a Full Time student?
Any week you have statutory maternity pay (SMP) deduct £100 weekly from that SMP income for Tax Credit purposes.0
