Thermal leggings for long legs

When its freezing cold outside, its normally cold at work. I wear normal leggings under my work trousers 90% of the time.

I bought some thermal leggings from TU (Sainsburys) but they are too short for me and only do one length. Many colleagues and myself think my employer should pay for thermals. That's another story.

Tights fall down on me regardless of the brand and wear pants over the top of them.

Im 5ft 8.5 and take a 14/16 if that helps.

TIA for finding anything suitable and not stupidly expensive.

Have you tried Uniqlo? I've found their mens stuff good http://www.uniqlo.com/uk/store/feature/uq/heattech/women/

I am 5ft 8 and recently bought "base layers" from Trespass

    I bought this set - http://www.trespass.com/thriller-unisex-adults-thermal-underwear

I also got another pair of unisex thermal leggings, but can't remember the make.

I went to the shop and tried a few different makes on

PS - great idea about wearing pants over tights to make them stay up!

Sports Direct often have thermal stuff in their outdoor section if you have a reasonable sized one - or Mountain Warehouse are the other ones that are pretty cheap.

  • I'm nearly 6ft and buy base layers from JL. I'm a size 10/12 and find they fit well.

Well if you are anything over 5'3" don't bother with Uniqlo (unless you have very short arms and legs or don't mind things reaching a few inches from where they are supposed to). I've decided this is due to Unlqlo being designed for an oriental (Japanese) fit model who are normally shorter than our European/Western fit models (5'7"/5'8" height) so although this is great for smaller than average, for anyone else they are not so good. Also having owned a few pairs of their leggings (used with socks you can get away with the 7/8ths length) they really don't stay up all day, sagging by mid day and falling down at the waist by the early evening. Ski-tights were even worse for this.

I've not tried them but others I know have rated the new version of M&S thermal wear. I used to wear their older styles but they were a bit too knitted and old fashioned for me but they have newer styles in now. I am not sure how they fit height wise but know M&S do offer a tall range in some styles of clothing.

I know of a few more expensive styles but you were asking for more affordable ranges but in case they were of any help to you; check out sports/ski type shops, thjey will sell base layers and these you can use as thermal wear. Most sportswear shops will sell them and especially designer-end spots wear (Stella McCartney/Adidas, Sweaty Betty, Lululemon...etc) they wont be cheap but they will last a while.

Otherwise, check department stores such as House of Fraser, John Lewis, Selfridges, Harrods and so on. But they will probably be on a par with M&S in terms of fit and quality.

If you are really struggling, try Primark but spoken from experience; they don't last long and you will need to replace them next year even if you don't wear them as the elastic seems to have a life span related to time rather than usage.
  • Have you tried wearing a bigger size? I am 5ft 2 and size 8, and I've got some really good thermal leggings that I bought from Tesco (I think) when I was considerably bigger, and they are size XL. They are stupidly long on me, I have to make big folds around the ankles and only wear them around the house ... whereas I don't have any problems with length when I buy size S. You might find going up a size addresses your problem with them falling down as well.

If they are under trousers, so not on show, try men's long johns rather than leggings. Try these: http://www.marksandspencer.com/heatgen-long-pants/p/p22468811?image=SD_03_T14_9412_Y0_X_EC_90&color=BLACK&prevPage=srp
