New Employment advice, training, holiday pay?

Hi there
i need some advice on a new job.
I went for an interview on friday and spent 2hrs, to which the end result was that i was told 'let's give it a go, i like you - come in for monday morning at 7:30am' I was told to bring in all my id (birth certificate, ultility bill, bank details etc).
I arrived at work at 7:30am and worked up until 12 mid-day then went home. I returned back as agreed with the employer that i would return at 2:30 for the afternoon shift.
Again i arrived at work at 2:30pm and worked up until 7pm that evening. At 6:30pm i was made aware that i was in training that day and therefore wouldn't be paid for that days work. I was told that from tomorrow Tuesday) i would be getting paid for any work i did. I was also given my hours for the following day and told that on wednesday i needed to undergo some training with regards to their computer systems, which was necessary and part of my job. I was told that as this is again 'training' i would only be paid for wednesday mornings shift (7:30-12) This training was mandatory to the job and i was told it was imperative that i stayed for it (in other words there was no option for me to decline attending) The training involved steps necessary to my job title.
I attended all the working shifts from Tuesday/wednesday as set out by my employer - and on 3 occasions even being given the keys to open up and lock up the premises.
At the end of wednesdays training session which ran over (the original training session was from 1pm-4pm) due to computer issues this ran on till gone 5pm - again i had no choice but to stay, as it was mandatory training. In addition i was told that while im entitled to time off for holiday, i will not get aid for it under any circumstances - i challenged this but was told they are well within their rights and they as a business would not pay a worker to be on holiday while then paying someone to undertake the work as it doesn't make financial sense. In addition, they also said sick pay isn't paid either - all of which will be written in your contract after you've completed 3 months service for them.
I was also told that i will not be getting a contract of employment for 3 months. When i said i realize im under a probationary period, i still thought a basic contract of employment had to be provided/signed during the probationary period - i put this forth to be told - while we are going to put you on the payroll you dont actually work for us until you've completed 12 weeks work.
I turned up to work today - to which she's bought in another worker and clearly told me im only getting paid until 10:30am - and should ii choose to i could leave if i wanted to - i obviously left as agreed and came back home.
Half an hour after returning home i received a phonecall from my employer asking what im doing about this evening shift which i was down to work - they explained that the other worker is in so if i do choose to come in it would be unpaid and therefore classed as training - their words were they cant afford to pay two people to do the same job and as they had already agreed with the other worker they were getting pad - i wouldn't be, so my time would unpaid
The job i initially applied for was one that had two posts (so they required 2 people) to rota the work shifts/patterns - however in the last week i have been working both shifts - and my rota for next week has me doing the same hours.
If someone can give me some advice on the points raised and what i should be approaching my employer with that would be fantastic. Obvioulsy before taking this up with my employer on a formal basis id like to be armed with some official documentation with regards to unpaid mandatory training, holidays, employment contracts etc. If somebody could point me in the direction of these that would be great
TIA

Are you in the UK? It's hard to believe any UK employer still thinks like this. But everything you are looking for can be found using basic Google searches.0

Thank you for the reply
Yes i live in the UK - i did search google and while i've printed out the basic rights at work and contracts of employment Citizens advice documents - i was looking for something a little more official in terms of mandatory training and payment? It's ok looking at various forums and un-known websites who all state mandatory training is classed as work hours and should be paid at the national minimum wage (even a google search of: mandatory training and pay displays this as the first information snippet), if im going to put a case forward to my employment id like something a little more official

Well forum advice is hardly more official..Give a call to Citizen Advice Bureau and see what they say. You can also check https://www.gov.uk/pay-and-work-rightsally.0 -

If this was me I'd say fine you aren't willing to pay me but look to give the time back in lieu at a time convenient TO the business please.
It's nonsense for them to say what they did.0 -
Out of interest, what is the role/ industry?Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0

I suspect a fleeting interest. If this is how the employer normally conducts themselves, then around about the time the OP raises this matter will be around about the time they are out of work. Sad, but true. No employer can be this oblivious to the law on basic employment rights, like the right to be paid and the right to holidays. So if this is what they think they can get away with (and probably have previously) then there will be no way the OP can come back on them when they are sacked.Out of interest, what is the role/ industry?0 -

Please re-read my reply - it did clearly state that while looking on various forums and un-known sites is ok, i wondered if someone could point me in the direction of a more official :rotfl:0 -

Are you considered self employed or on a zero hour contract?
To be honest I'd recommend leaving the job. The company sound like a nightmare to work for and I can guarantee it won't get any easier. The likelihood is once you raise your issues you'll find yourself out of a job anyway, even if they're in the wrong.0
