hi all-appreciate this is a classic 'how long is a piece of string question' but wondered if anyone could feedback from their own experiences-had my OR interview about 10 days ago and waiting to hear as to whether a trustee is going to be appointed - i think its unlikely but there is an outside chance they might take an interest in my previous home-sold 18 months ago with proceeds going to my ex-wife/kids to buy new home. My sense with the OR was that they wouldn't be interested but he did say 'we'll be in touch re the house if neccessary'

p.s that was the only outstanding issue as i am not working therefore no IPA on that front0

My OR office sent letters via 2nd class mail, plastered with 'Insolvency Service' franking. I missed a letter which didn't arrive (never ever had post go missing before), received a warning letter follow up which alarmed me because I didn't know they had requested anything. I promptly asked for email correspondence instead, which was not an issue for them. Further contact to them (such as a cheque for compensation from a bank) was dealt with quite quickly, a couple of weeks at most.
I could say 2 days, 2 months... You already know it's irrelevant because we don't know how busy your office is and we don't know what aspects they're working on to draw a conclusion on this aspect. I would advise them of a preference for email if you can, faster and not a worry over lost letters! You can always email and ask about the house interest, it won't prompt further scrutiny just because you asked, they don't bite.0 -
I agree with alltaken on the email communication aspect - speeds things up and gives a slightly less formal feel to things.
On asking the question about the house, my only advice is keep your head below the parapet. As long as your case is fresh (less than 12 weeks, notice to creditors etc) wheels are in motion anyway. If they have things to ask, they will come back to you, but don't prompt them. I had a real little Hitler over a very small issue that I ended up complaining to the actual OR about, and had him removed from my case. You only need to find the one little renegade case handler who sits near to the OR's office and you'll be back and forth for the full 12 months.
Final interesting point - I'm now on my 5th examiner, thanks to illness, maternity and retirements. Am I to expect a prize?0 -
Thanks both, Pot I think you are right, ref your previous 'don't poke the bear' comment- It would appear that my office isn't that busy as they have already written to my council, who called me checking my bank account was ok for HB payments! She said she had a letter in front her from the OR, prob forwarded to her from CT dept, who were one of my creditors- so wheels are in motion I guess-
To your final point do they notify you re change of examiner or is it because you have had various ongoing issues with them, seem to read a lot of posts about people never hearing from them again after their interview so wondered why they have been so proactive keeping you in the loop on their various comings and goings!
Alltaken can I ask you what you mean by ...further contact to.... presume this relates to you informing them of a change of circumstances, how do they deal with it, I ask as I've just rented some cupboard space in my flat to a mate, peanuts but need to changed something, should I notify?
Hi yes and I specified pref to email when we met
Thanks0 -
'Charge' something,0

I have amended my post above (them).
I would notify, it's of no consequence as I'm sure you're below the threshold of an IPA. Better transparent is my philosophy when dealing with people that give you the same warning 5 times in the 'welcome' pack.
Like yourself, I was unemployed; they did not care about my budget but I stuck to informing them if I ever got more money from elsewhere, still didn't care but thanked me for letting them know.
Housing benefit wise, do they know about the lodger?0 -
I've received emails from whoever has taken over just informing me. Welsh hospitality possibly, they don't offer such kindness in the big smoke!0

Thanks, sorry prob unclear, it's not a lodger, just someone storing some stuff with me, I have a lot of unused cupboard space, long story as to why I have few possessions, but kind of like it that way!
I'm charging her 35 a month, so minimal0 -
