Hi,
I've been really inspired by all the amazing ideas on here for MS christmas ideas. I also really like the idea of giving something a little different / ethical as well, and despite some of the bad press, I do like some of the alternative gift ideas (as well as giving people something 'proper' to open on the day!)
I just received a catalogue from good gifts (www.goodgifts.org) and they do a range of stocking filler gifts from £3... there is definitely scope for tailoring these to themed gift baskets etc- 'gifts' include a turkey, jumpers, theatre tickets, watering cans, school dinners...- like most of these schemes, you pay the money and then you get a card for the person, with info about the project.
Some of the gifts are for the UK, others for overseas- for a whole range of charities and projects. They have a guarantee that the money will be spent appropriately on what it says in the catalogue- not on charity admin costs (no- I don't work for them!). I think other organisations do similar ethical gifts for under a tenner (eg Oxfam, Tearfund...)
I really don't want this to develop into a debate on altruism, colonialism, international development theory- just think it's a nice idea and might be something to think about adding in to some special gift hampers!
Bye for now x
