A bit of advice please - court date set

I'm about to phone the court to get a date for our bankruptcy hearing. I could do with a bit of advice regarding timings with salary etc.

We get paid on the 27th of the month.... Just really confused about what to do with moving money about to make sure it's not stuck in a frozen bank account.

Also, what do you think about the chances of keeping our current bank accounts? They're with Barclay's, who are not one of our creditors, and they've been in good order ever since we've had them, including throughout this whole process.

Sorry if this doesn't make a lot of sense - feel like I'm just rambling now!!

  • Hi Cat,
I left myself with loads of problems because i didn't time things right, so your right to ask.
Barclays will allow BRs a Cash Card Account. Its very basic, allows you to have DD's and So's and gives you a cash point card, although you can't use it in shops etc.
Maybe worth popping in and explaining the situation and seeing if you can get a cash card account set up now. I found Barclays to be very helpful and (surprisingly) welcoming!
Remember to allow time for work to sort out payment into a new account. My work has to know by the 13th of each month if the payment is to go elsewhere...and i went BR on the 14th! it took me ages to get my wages back from them after it was returned to them from my frozen halifax account.
Another, often used idea, is to have your wages paid into a trusted friend/relatives account, until you can sort things out.
Hope this helps a little, and good luck. Let us know how you get on.

  • Ok. We have a court date for 5th October.

Feeling really nervous about it, dreading it and looking forward to it all being over all at the same time!

I rang up one court which I thought was my nearest and was told that they are very busy at the moment so they would be quite a wait. I was given a date of the 12th of Oct, which was not that bad. I then gave the lady my details and she said that I needed to apply to a different court, which was apparently nearer. Rang the other court and have been given a date of the 5th of Oct, which is great because thats 35 less telephone calls I will not have to answer at home.

That was chosen for convenience. I was offered 28th September, but pay day is 28th of the month so wanted to avoid it being that close.

I was then offered 1st Oct as well. I had specified Mondays and Fridays as best so I suspect I may have got in even earlier if I hadn't.
  • Hello

I am in the process of looking at BR. Is the court hearing open to the public

  • Hi Inas.
No the court isn't open to the public. Its usually just you and the judge in a side room. In my case, the judge was too busy to see me an just signed the form.
I'm not sure, but i think it may be different if your in London (and maybe some other places) and have to go to the court in the Strand. They seem to do 'mass' hearings, with yourself and others going BR in the same room as the judge, and he just signs all the orders.
