Speculative job application. Letter or e-mail?

The company does not list an e-mail address on it's website, just phone number, address and online contact form. Normally I would e-mail my covering letter and attach my CV to that. As I cannot do that, would it be best to post them my covering letter and CV? Rather than messing about asking via their online form if they have an e-mail address I could send it to?

Why don't you try ringing them up? Or maybe offer to volunteer for a week/month.

Failing that I'd opt for the mailing option.
  • Ring them and ask for an email address to send a CV to. Don't volunteer to work for free, why do that unless it a volunteer post?
  • What type of company?

I phoned a company who advertised on indeed so a 'legitimate' site for all of 2 days before they took the job advert down - when I phoned they weren't that impressed and I didn't get far, whilst it was them going to the trouble of trying to advertise on a national site lol! though I did establish quite quickly if I'd want to work with the people that answered. so I guess there is a silver lining to everything.
  • You can do one more thing to find email address! Just visit the web page where contact form is present and the press Ctrl + U (source code) once the source code is opened. find "@" by using Ctrl + F. Perhaps, you will get the email address by doing this. You can do one more thing, just search the profile of company on Linkdin or other jobseeking portals. Profile of company will contain email address and other contact details!
  • It's a relatively small company within the film/TV industry.

Good call on the source code, but no luck. Not on Linkedin either.

I would be posting my CV and covering letter regardless. Simply because it takes longer to tear open an envelope, pull out the contents, register what it is, and chuck it in the bin, than it does to press "delete" when you see an unsolicited email in your inbox. I wouldn't want to place myself in the same category as the people who email me about search engine optimisation and stationery.

I would only email my CV if I was very confident that I had the email address of someone who would give it their consideration. So I certainly wouldn't bother trying to glean one from website source code.
  • That's what I figured. Thanks for confirming.

I had spoken to people who said 'posting a CV? It's 2016, e-mail it' I just didn't fancy it, especially without an actual person to direct it to.
