Dealing with the debt!

  • Just wanted to stop by and say hello, and wish you lots of luck and determination!

The advice on order of payments sounds good to me too, my top tip is getting an emergency fund together - even a few hundred pounds. I found before I put away an emergency fund, when something went wrong (car, fridge etc..) I had to revert back to my credit card and it was such a depressing feeling. Having £500 tucked away was a massive comfort and also for some reason actually having money tucked away for a change made me more careful with my spending! I think its because its actually my money for a change...!
I put an ER fund away before I carried on making over payments on my debt, feels a bit counterproductive but I really recommend that buffer.

Anyways, have a lovely evening and I've subscribed so I can pop in and say hi :)

If you continue paying 54 quid and thats your basic line rental ie not going over allowances etc thats 648.

Might be worth biting the bullet and selling the phone and getting out of it. Or asking if mid way through the contract you can go too a slightly cheaper price plan. Vodafone from experience are a pain in the !!! too deal with.

  • Ladya what does your current contract give you? No point in jumping until you see what else is out there that might work for you.

Huskyrunner - exactly what you said about Voda - I've always been disinclined to go back to them.

  • Essexhebri-we had a nightmare with them over a simple thing i had a vodafone contract in my name, i also had a phone for my 12 year old son at the time. My partner was also with them and the muppets kept mixing up the bills ie taking mine from my partners bank account, then my sons from my partners etc etc this went on for 4 months till we went through there complaints team and got it sorted.

Diabolic too deal with and the customer advisors we dealt with were horrendous.

  • Thank you Pennies :-)

Fab advice with the EF too - I do have a habit of referring back to my credit card - its a viscous circle sometimes!

Husky, tried that yesterday, however i am going to give it another shot! They are terrible and your right regarding the £648 so the number they gave me yesterday makes no sense!

My current contract is unlimited calls/ texts - calls I never use much as I am a texter... my texts I use no more than 1000 if that a month, I whats app most of the time. My internet is 8gb and god knows how I go over pretty much every month, I think it is ridiculous, I really am not on my phone enough to keep going over.

I hear lots of people have problems! I have not had it as bad as that Husky but they never seem to want to help!! I will call them today and update you all :-)
    Fingers crossed!!

Good news on the other hand - I had babysitting yesterday - I only owe my mum £205 now!

  • OK - there's got to be something wrong if you're going over your data that often and you have 8gb a month. I have 2gb with EE - and go over about once a year if that, and I do a fair amount of data heavy stuff with photos. Has Vodaphone got an App where you can keep track of your useage? I find that really handy. Check that things like FB are set to play videos on wifi only. Do you have spotify or anything like that? Remember that anything that streams music or video will use a lot of data. Take a look at THIS LINK for hints to reduce data use.

    VODAFONE ARE RIDICULOUS!!

Today I tried again, they told me today that I can £400 to cancel my contract but that's only if I take a new one out with them.... if I want to go to another supplier it's jumped up to £500.... I have now decided it's cheaper and less hassle to carry on with my contract until my renewal date....

EssexHebridean that was my thoughts!! I have the my Vodafone app, but it takes ages to refresh and update the allowance. They send a text saying your under 1gb left, but by the time it comes through I am well below that, so I check the app and normally that tips me over!
I have used the link and switched everything off, thank you for that! It should really help :-)

The app really shouldn't cost you any data to check - if they're making that data heavy too that really IS cheeky. Another thing you could try for a while is turning off mobile data altogether, and just switching it on when you need to use it for something and can't find wifi. Remember that McDonalds and Wetherspoons have free Cloud wifi (which you can access from outside!). Does your tariff entitle you to access BT wifi hotspots or similar, and if so is your phone set to make sure it does this?
