Do you feel no responsibility towards those whom you might well be misadvising?

More than a bit harsh.
The OP has given their age and some other details, it's very unlikely that an annuity will offer value to someone at 55.
This is a public forum and we aren't affecting professional advice, so that doesn't seem unreasonable to me.
In another thirty years then an annuity may well be a sensible option.0 -

I note that you couch your comments in terms of "unlikely", and "may well be", which is fair enough. That's not what the offender did. This is a public forum and we aren't affecting professional advice, so that doesn't seem unreasonable to me.
Both you and I know that, but new posters don't necessarily.
JamesD's response was highly inappropriate.
Thank Goodness this is a public forum, and we can call such things out, eh?

Not really, as you state this is a public forum, Jamesd post was probably not as caveated as it should have been but there was nothing misleading in the statement. In most cases it would be correct, probably the vast majority.
Anyway with the recent information that you've both supplied about colourful pasts and potential to lead lives of mystery and intrigue in future then I'm probably out of my depth, we may be getting into horses heads and fishy swimming scenarios.0 -

If you feel so strongly I find it a little odd that you didn't respond 9 months ago (clue - look at the post dates!).The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
I didn't suggest never buying an annuity and did suggest considering buying guaranteed income later in life, using an option that normally pays about twice as much per Pound spent as buying an annuity. I don't hate annuities, suggest that people here buy them from time to time and fully expect to buy one or more of them myself at some point. Of course you've made a similar claim before a year or so ago, to which I responded similarly and in a later post in the same discussion two of the five points I made suggested considering annuity purchase.FatherAbraham wrote: »Wow. At age 55 they normally pay very little income for the money spent compared to alternatives and are unlikely to match the income timing need of the person asking, as I explained in my post. They still can often be a useful tool in an income providing mixture.0 -
FatherAbraham ceased being an active poster on the forum for about a year soon after making a similar sort of claim and my response to it, linked to in my previous post, with that 18 September 2016 post from FatherAbraham being the last before the break until a return in July 2017. So just not around here to reply at the time of the original post.If you feel so strongly I find it a little odd that you didn't respond 9 months ago (clue - look at the post dates!).0
