Mortgage Redemtion

Options
I would like to know from people who have repaid their mortgages, what they consider the best thing to do with the deeds to the house. Do you keep them at home or is handing them to a solicitor the best option? Advice please.

  • I am in the same position as you and i am thinking of buying a fire proof box to keep my title deeds in .These are available from £12.00 to as much as you want to spend ,beats paying someone else to store them.
  • Hi Jeff. Does your bank/building society offer a Deedstore facility. Some offer this free of charge, others charge a small one off fee.
However, i think i am right in saying thaqt none of this is really necessary anyway because your deeds title is kept in electronic format at the Land registry.

    That's correct, Karl.

As a result, I've put mine in a drawer at home as I know that they're available online if required from the Land Registry.
