Gifted deposit return

Hi,

Thanks in advance for any help!

My grandfather gifted myself and my partner a sum of money to help buy our house. He signed a gift letter and everything for Natwest when we got the mortgage. We've since completed on the house and bought everything we need, and still have a small sum of money left. We would like to send the money back to my grandfather as we didn't use it (our help to buy ISA bonus ended up being more after we kept saving)

My question is - my mortgage is with Natwest, bank with Natwest, is it wrong/against any rules to send him the money back? It was a gift, just we didn't use it all and there's no point us keeping it.

Thanks in advance!

What rules? Just send it back, you can do whatever you want with it.

You can do whatever you want with your own money (within the law!)

My Dad gave me some cash when I first bought. The bank made us declare it as a gift, but I was always determined to pay him back - and did so. He would've been fine if I hadn't, but I wanted to. Bank never queried anything.

You have a nice grandfather who gave you a nice gift.

You may now decide to give him an entirely separate gift, which is in no way related to the first gift.

    Just send the money :)
