Leaving EE for BT but can't cancel?

Moving our landline and broadband from EE to BT, called up to cancel. EE have said if we cancel with them our number can't be transported over, but if we don't cancel in advance we still have to pay a month from the date we do cancel (so the day we transfer) - is this correct as I'd like to not pay £60 for a month of something we can't use (coming out of contract, costs are going up massively)
Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81
Debt September 20th 2022 £2991.68- 96.92% paid off
Met NIM 23/06/2008

If you want to avoid paying cease and install fee's you need to use the migration process to move from one provider to another, you don't need to contact your current provider, your 'new' provider handles the changeover, obviously you need to time the date of the changeover , taking into account when your minimum term expires with your old provider and any notice period you have to give, you don't pay twice though, if your old provider takes a month charge in advance, they should refund any part month after the new company takes over, but avoid cancelling your old provider directly, let your new provider do it
For example if you were in a 12 month minimum term, and had to give 30 days notice, then the new provider should take the line over after the 12 month anniversary, but you could arrange it after month 11, so the notice period and minimum term match up, I think they work on about 14 days to from taking the order to migrate to actually doing the work, so I would place the order after month 11 but tell BT not to take over the line for a month, so both the notice period and minimum term have been satisfied, to be on the safe side you could wait until half way through month 11, you would pay for 2 weeks of the old providers 'new' terms, but shouldn't get any unexpected early termination fee's
