I'm thinking of replacing my printer as its a little unreliable, we need a scanner/printer mostly used by ids for homework occasional photo printing.
I always worry that I won't be able to get replacement inks when I need them.
Any advice would be greatly received

I didn't like Epson or Canon. HP are good, but ink is expensive. I currently have a Brother. Most of my printing is for Rainbows and Brownies, mainly black ink but a few colour pages too.0

You can always get inks on ebay or Amazon - either originals (pricey) or compatibles (quality varies, but black inks are normally OK for everyday printing).
Have a look at ink prices and then pick a printer based on what you need it for, rather than availability of ink, which really shouldn't be an issue. If you're worried about running out, keep a spare set in the house - the shelf life is usually upwards of a year.0 -
I have taken to buying printers aimed at small businesses rather than consumers as they are more reliable, and the turn-over of models is a bit slower so ink remains available for longer. Current printer is a HP Officejet 6700. The ink is quite expensive relative to other printers but cheap in absolute terms - as a family of five we spend about £50 a year on ink.The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0

Are you sure you need a scanner, having had years of nothing but trouble from inkjet printers I got a colour laserjet printer, was about £100 (you can get mono ones for less). Never had a problem with blocked or dryed out print heads since. If I ever need to scan a document I just use my mobile phone to take a pic and print that, works quite well.0
