Can I be dismissed?

  • Thanks,
At the moment i'd be happy with a verbal or written warning, I think that the other issue that has annoyed the right at top people is that I reported it on the Saturday to my line manager, he then reported it to his manager then nothing was done with it until the Wednesday I went back to work.

Dismissal is probably unlikely, based on what you have said here. But it was !!!!!ish not to report it straight away. There may have been "good" reasons. There always are! I think profuse apologies after the explanation are in order. And, to be fair, it's great to see an employer taking health and safety so seriously. The breakdown higher up isn't your fault, but many employers would have shrugged. The fact they aren't suggests they think health and safety is important.
  • Thanks for all the replies,
Just an update on what happened, the ceo visited site yesterday for a meeting about the injury, he looked at a photo of my ankle, picked up the folder with all the details of what happened and throw it to one side and said he's not interested in that, he's more upset and concerned that one of his employees had been injured and how can we make sure this never happens again :)
Still have an on site internal investigation to go through which may result in a verbal warning for the delay in reporting but i'd be happy with that.
    Thanks again

Employ less clumsy people :rotfl: ?

But good news and good to see health and safety taken so seriously...
  • Yes, very good news that H & S is taken seriously. However, can't you minimise your offence by saying that your initial assessment of the situation was that it was
    a) a very minor injury (it was only later that you realised it really was sprained), and
    b) due to your own clumsiness and not a H & S issue, for which you apologise?

  • I did put in my statement that once i'd sprained the ankle I tried to walk it off asI've done this in the past away from work and it normally works without any issues, I then put that because the swelling hadn't gone down as much as i'd of liked I visited the walk in centre as a precautionary measure.
As I've said they aren't going to drag me over the coals for it which is good, but they are keen to ensure that a similar incident doesn't happen again.
  • Excellent! They actually sound like rather good employers!

  • I'd probably have done the same, delayed reporting it until I was sure a real injury had been done. Sometimes you can 'twist' your ankle, hurts badly immediately but the next day its nothing.
