How can you know on Friday you won't be well on Monday?

That you can't start till Tuesday?

I've been advised by my GP (just seen him) to have four days rest. I haven't heard off the agency and probably won't til Monday.

If I was just starting a job, first day/week/month my leg would have to be hanging off before I would go sick.
  • Well I'm hoping to be well for Monday, but I've not heard from the agency as he was going to sort something with the new job if he could about my money situation. They're open 7 days a week, so I'll ring.

Do you even need a photo card for a weekly? Thought they kicked in with monthly and longer. Check with First first. In any case you may need to talk the bus drivers through it first few times. I think it's F9 on their machines. Only work on First buses and trains, but that's most of the trains, most buses in Bath, and just means not using Crossville at Weston end. Considering the saving over buying separates (indeed cheaper than train alone as you can't use cross country) it's a total result ;-)
  • My partner coming off JSA got a months travel paid for, there is a minimum time you have to have been out of work and it is from the 'Advisors Discretionary Fund'. I don't know how that applies to ESA though, I guess you are in the jobseeking group?

I used to do the commute you are talking about. Its survivable short term, including by bus. Long term totally exhausting and the trains were massively unreliable. I used to do my whole morning routine on the bus-breakfast, hair everything :D Have you checked the cost of a cheap room? Might be cheaper than the fare, although having done the move in reverse I know Bath is quite dear for a M-F let. Good luck!
Saving for a deposit. £5440 of £11000 saved so far:j
  • It says you need a photocard on the website - as I said I can't really do anything until I hear from the agency.

As for checking for room costs, I'd stay with my Mum (well I'd move back) but she's only got a small place for her and my brother. I'm sure there will be a way, who knows they may be willing to wait.

Maybe you could use her sofa for 2 weeks?

I'll be honest you seem to put a lot of obstacles in place of starting this job.
First you insist on taking the more expensive transport which you can't afford.
Then you know you'll be ill 3 days in advance.
Now you can't stay at your mums for a few nights midweek because she doesn't have a spare room.
Perhaps you're better off staying on benefits.

No useful advice, but am amused at the irony of your name and the fact your job is too far away for comfort.

    Sretan put!
  • hvala robatwork :)

I tried the agency today, and the person in charge of all the admin recruitment isn't in until Monday. I just want to know what is going, yet the job is still advertised on their website and a closing date of 21st of November (ironically my 32nd birthday).

As stupid as it sounds, I didn't think it would be that much to Bath from WsM! Also, to be honest I didn't think I stood a chance in gaining employment with them and just applied to get the Job Centre off my back, hence switching to ESA. I do have another potential job lined up in Bristol which is easier to get to, but I don't think I'll get it as I will fail the financial checks due to all the debts and a CCJ from a relationship breakup in 2009 and my late partner's debts and lack of stable income.

Madness. ESA does me comfort (yet hassling various GPs for sicknotes), but I want to work and get out of here as it depresses me living here.
