Mortgage Advice needed

Hello, I'm new to the forum and need some advice on getting a mortgage with poor credit.

I was discharged from bankruptcy early in 2006 and still have a terrible credit rating, I have a basic account and was recently turned down for a debit card application.
My partner has an extremely good credit rating, and we are currently saving towards a deposit to buy a flat next year. We are getting married in September 2008.

I've got 2 questions:

1. Would we be better off if she got a mortgage in her name only, instead of applying for a joint mortgage?

2. If yes, would she be better off doing this before we get married? What I mean by this is, will getting married to someone with a bad credit rating adversely affect her credit rating?

All advice welcome ;)

if you have less than 10% deposit then you may find it very difficult to find a mortgage with your OH being named.

I would get a copy of your credit files to get a broker to have a look at it and confirm exactly what type of deals are available.

The wedding will not adversely affect your application so dont panic there.

Once you have your credit files, you may be able to use the time leading upto this point to improve the credit file - have a read of martin's article on this.
