Mortgage decline advice - any chance?

We've just had a mortgage declined and are completely at sea now.
I've paid mortgage for last 15 years on property in my name and wanted to port it to new property with 10k on top. Plenty equity so deposit would be more than half the purchase price. They won't lend to me alone, as although amount would be similar per month, my circumstances have changed... fine to keep paying them but not to get a mortgage now it seems! My credit rating is excellent.
Problem is partner has a default from last year when the direct debits to a personal loan were messed up then resolved, so they've declined based on that.
Would an independent advisor have a good chance of getting us something? Or are we staying put.

So if the default from your partner was a mistake can the credit record get amended to reflect that?
  • Unfortunately no, they've refused. As far as they're concerned not their problem. The error was the other bank, and they won't admit to it. We should've complained at the time but the priority was sorting out the payments.

A broker will be in a position to look at the details of your application closely and suggest options that are available.
  • If the loan payments were resolved within a month then you have a chance of correcting your credit file. If loan payment say on 28th month and you didnt pay till 5th of following month then the lender will have to ammend records as most update credit file records at the end of the month as at the time you were in arrears but didnt take into account say a direct debit reapplying.

Your current lender is not the only one out there.

    Their word is not final.
