Hi
Could anyone help me with this? I have been through my old meat book from the 1950's and it lists all the cuts of meat, but steak isn't mentioned!
Is a lamb steak better off slow cooked or fried? I bought it at Asda reduced today and as a non meat eater for 20 plus years, I have no idea what to do with it!
I was wanting to make a lamb stew, but I think I may have bought the wrong thing!

I always though that steak was beef. But still if you stew it I'm sure it wouldn't come to any harm, it will only make the meat tender.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0

Hi there
I have over the years bought half whole lamb meat packs and once a whole lamb meat pack for the freezer. I must admit that none of the cuts in these packs were described as steak! I had different types of chops (some without bone), joints etc. Maybe Asda are calling Boneless chops 'steak'.
Have just pulled out an ancient Meat Marketing Board leaflet which gives all the terminology for cuts of meat from Beef, Pork, Lamb etc. No mention of steak for the Lamb page. This is perhaps clever marketing from Asda. However, would think one of the prime cuts and will not require too much cooking.
Hope this helps.

Noticed this in Tesco the other day - boneless pork chops were being labelled 'steaks'. Not sure what this means in reality, perhaps that the supermarkets can charge more? Or maybe I'm just being cynical!

ive sometimes bought both lamb and shoulder steaks, its just a boneless slice cut from anywhere from any part of any animal- prior planning prevents poor performance!

Hi all
I am going to dice it and stew and see. Meat is confusing enough without Asda 'making up' new cuts!
There was no bone in it and it looks quite tender, so it should be nice.
Thanks for the replies.
