I don't think there is any harm in asking for reimbursement of costs if done nicely. Of course, no obligation to pay you but if they are decent they should be feeling bad (even though it may have been out of their control) and pay up.

Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked
