you need to register for self assessment before you can register for online filing with the UTR

fill out this form and you'll recieve a UTR in the post in the next 2-3 weeks.
however if your taxable profit from the rental income is below £2500 for the tax year 06/04/2015-05/04/2016
you can just call HMRC on 0300 200 3300 and they can put it through your tax code to save having to file a return.0
