Morning all, I've read the sticky thread about tickets for newbies, but I'm really confused by it.

Basically my relation has had a letter from G24 stating that they've been fined/charged £100 for parking too long at a carpark (that incidentally I was under the impression was a council carpark). Anyway, they made two trips to this carpark several hours apart and stayed for a max of 30 minutes both times as they were picking up prescriptions. The letter from G24 has photos of them entering the carpark in the morning and leaving four hours later, which they didn't do. My other relation is wanting to pay the £40 fine but after googling G24 I've told them not to until I can do some research on them.

I'm a bit lost as to what to tell them to do though now. Do I tell them to ignore it or do I write a letter to them stating that the charge is incorrect because they haven't shown my relation leaving the first time and returning the second time?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated as I'm going to see them at lunchtime and would like something to tell them for what to do next.

Thank you!

tell them to send G24 the IPC template letter in the NEWBIES sticky thread, as keeper (do not reveal who was driving)

also add a line saying that

The DRIVER paid 2 short visits that day and obeyed the parking rules on both occasions, so they should cancel the pcn as the alleged contravention did not occur

this scenario is known as "double dipping" (google it)
ps:- its not a "fine" , its an invoice
  • Brilliant, thanks so much. I'll give them a call shortly and tell them.

never ever phone a parking company.

Get everything on paper, if it gets to court a judge will see that you did all the right things. Phone them and they will lie that they did not receive a call.

You are dealing with crooks, make life difficult, (and expensive), for them.
You never know how far you can go until you go too far.

Assuming by "them" you mean your grandparents, and not G24!

Depending on their IT literacy and how well they will deal with the intimidation and hassle they will likely get, you may want to do this on their behalf. Use their name and address (as KEEPER, not driver), but you can do the actual legwork.

Don't expect G24 to roll over and accept your appeal. That's not how it works. They only want your money. Reasonableness, fair-mindedness and playing by the rules does not feature in their behaviour. This is another reason you may want to do this as a proxy to your grandparents. People of a previous generation work on the basis that others, especially an official-looking company, act as ethically and fairly as they do. regrettably this is often not the case.

Oh yes, I mean my relations, definitely not G24. Their IT literacy isn't the best, so I'll do it for them and take it round tonight to show them.

I've recently had the dubious "pleasure" of dealing with G24.

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5506721

That may be useful to you as reference.

The key thing here is that your grandfather (or whoever was driving) has been caught by what is called "double dipping", which is where the cheapo ANPR systems default to reporting the first and last times they catch the car, and ignore any and all instances in between. Sometimes this is just a system error, other times the company DELIBERATELY omits this information.

It's a situation that the PPCs have been warned about - in no uncertain terms - previously.

You can, of course, insist the company provides you with a list of any and all times the car was caught by the cameras by submitting a Subject Access Request to them under the DPA - but there's no guarantee they won't just send you an *edited* version of the list that only shows the car being caught twice.

Also, you should edit your post as currently you've given away who was driving the car.
  • I'll have a look through that before I finish work. And I shall edit now, thanks.

do you have any recipes / card / bank details for the two trips ?

can you prove that they where else where in between the two visits ?

have they complained to the stores that they visited yet ?

    good luck
