Council tax vs housing benefit

Re a previous thread of mine, advising that current outstanding council tax and arrears (of which I have both) qualify for bankruptcy, will this impact my housing benefit? I.e will the council deduct HB from the unpaid council tax, or some other mechanism
Seems unlikely but I'm doing the questionnaire today and tomorrow prior to my OR interview on Thurs so I may have a few questions?

Nope. It gets written off. Council tax relief would be withdrawn due to not being required, a zero bill in that regard. Housing benefit will stay as entitlement, it won't reduce.0

Bankruptcy will cover the charge but it doesn't alter the underlying aspect of Council Tax liability etc - bankruptcy should only cover the debt that's due (which should be the full council tax less any reductions, payments etc). This is why you sometimes see cases where the council tax charge has been altered retrospectively due to adjustments to council tax support etc.
CraigI no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
