Solar Panel Quote Advice

Hi All, I have a quote from Project Solar UK and am wondering how to compares.
Its a 2.75kW system, 11 x EVO IF panels.
Annual roof generation is 2365.00 kWh
All in 7,500 GBP

Generation Tariff 0.0418
Export 0.0491
Unit price of elec 0.1557
Assumed rate of inflation 3.22%

Year 1 FIT estimates
Generation 98.86
Export 58.06
Total 156.92
+ 70.24 monthly elec saving

Thanks in advance :)

You should be looking to pay half that.
£70.24 monthly saving on elec?. no way, that's 450 kWh a month you would have to generate and use.

Completely agree, 2.75 these days should be around £3000, and as for the elec saving. They must have asked the pig that flew past. Wildly exaggerated.

Extremely expensive quote at more than twice what it should cost and savings more than what can be achieved with a much bigger system.

It's far too expensive, and whilst the FiT and export figures seem reasonable, the leccy savings are insane. Expect to save around £120pa, that's about £10pm. I save about £170-£180 with a bigger system.

There's some general advice in the PV FAQs.

I'm probably being overly suspicious, but did they leave any documentation confirming the leccy savings? As ajbell is right to question the theoretical possibility. 450kWh pm = 5,400kWh pa more than twice the estimated generation of 2,365kWh.

Is this a loan financed deal?

    Hi there,
I recently bought solar PV. These guys were one of the first to respond. I consider that meeting 3 hours of my life I would never get back. I found that the proposed pricing was very steep and the assumptions around ROI unreal. Assumptions such as "you would use 50% of your generated electricity", energy price inflation would be at 4-5%. I would urge you to use the metric of £ / kwh to compare prices.

  • To put that price in to some perspective, I paid £6k for 4kWp three years ago and since then panel and inverter costs have come down significantly...

    Pick up that barge pole..

And once a company has shown it can't be trusted on just one issue then all the trust is gone. Run a mile!

Haven't got home to check yet but only needed 4kWh today to get 4000kWh since my install on Nov 12th last year.

It's a common trick used by less reputable suppliers to use massive inflation numbers on prices. It was happening when I got my panels 5 years ago and looks like it's still going on.

Due to the power of compounding a small number multiplied repeatedly over a long period will give a much larger number. Not good for solar quotes but very good if you are investing your money over the long term.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
