Email about loan application - scam?

Hi there, since yesterday I have received both texts, emails and a call on my mobile about me having applied for a loan of £650 and that I needed to click on a link to confirm my application. I have not heard of any of these companies and one of them called MYJAR sent me a pin (to enter to confirm my application) and also a confirmation link to confirm my for my email. I contacted the company and they confirmed my details had been entered to apply for a loan but obviously as I had received the email and text message with the PIN that nothing was activated. This is all a bit worrying as the texts detail my email, phone number and postcode. I'm just wondering if anyone has ever received or experienced anything similar. Thanks, Nick

Not necessarily - there are plenty of places where that information could have been stored and subsequently stolen - for example a company's customer database. It's not unknown for data centre staff who have privileged access to servers to "borrow" the content of server databases.

Or it would not be that unusual for a fairly casual friend to know that much info about you. Yes, it ~could~ be a family member, but the OP should try to eliminate other options before exploring that one, IMO.

It sounds like somebody has used your details to apply for a loan.Does seem a bit pointless since nothing can be done with the money lent until you click on a link that comes to YOU.

    You could report to actionfraud.police.uk.

Do you have any idea who it might be-often it is someone who knows at least a few basic details about you.At some stage they were probably asked for your date of birth as well.
