Working for myself?

I have been helping a guy who is self employed. I have been working with him part time for a couple of months. I choose when I help him and he doesn't employ me as such. So I'm wondering whether I should declare my self as self employed? As a sole trader? And if I do, should I open a seperate bank account as he pays me cheques? And if so, should it be a business account that matches my sole trader status?
The amount of money I make for a year, I wouldn't need to pay tax, so do I need to register as self employed?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated

Hi, it doesn't matter if you don't earn much, you declare what you earn and if it is below the threshold, you won't pay tax. Have a look at the HMRC guide here : https://www.gov.uk/working-for-yourself/overview
I don't think you'd need a separate bank account but can't say for sure.ally.0
