DMP Mental Health / Write off

I have had a DMP for many years, since getting into debt as a student when I had to take extra years due to my condition. Since then I have had a DMP managed through Payplan and I've managed to pay back around 2/3 of the debt. I still have about £3K to pay and have paid over £6K.
Payplan sent me a questionnaire about debt and mental health and I've given a copy to the GP. I might be able to get the rest written off due to my condition. (I'm on long term PIP and ESA and have been since 3005, the condition was diagnosed in 1999.
I have a couple of worries about this though.
Would it mean the debt was considered unpaid whereas is stay with the DMP it would be paid and is that a better option for the future in terms of credit for my family?
I'm married, in the last couple of years, would my husband me liable for the debt or would his credit rating be affected?
Lastly, the bank said they wonder writing off when the health condition is not going to improve, however no-where in the MH questionnaire is a prognosis mentioned. My condition is recurrent psychotic depresssion, would it be a problem it is termed recurring I wonder. I do have a psych letter stating need to stay on meds for the future. many thanks for any help.

You don't say how many years you have been on a dmp. It is quite likely that creditors reporting to the credit agencies (and a lot don't) would have registered a default at the start of the process. The entry drops off six years after that. Nothing you do is going to change that.
Your husband's credit file would only be affected if you have joint financial products.
It is worth getting a copy of your files to see what is recorded - Callcredit is available free through Noddle; Equifax is free through clearscore; Experian will need a £2 statutory report unless you have a free trial and cancel before the direct debit kicks in.0 -

Hi
Any additional information and medical evidence you can provide the better really, so include your doctor’s letter when you request the write off.

Hi,
Any defaulted debt only stays on your credit file for 6 years, after which it just drops off, as though it were never there.
No one else is liable for your debts but you, and it won't effect anyone else's credit file, unless, as stated above, you have any joint financial products together.
You can always add extra sheets of paper describing your condition in more detail, and add it to the questionnaire.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Ok yes I wrote a detailed letter, and also send my care plan and PIP descriptors- however the bank say it needs to be from within a year and was dated prior to that. So have sent in the new MH form to the docs. have just changed surgery though so not sure if they can do it or not- it says needs to be someone who knows you.
Thanks for the info, that's reassuring in a way. I did get a copy of my credit report and it seemed OK, I have had the DMP for at least ten years now so well over the 6 yrs.
It seems a bit of a shame to have paid most of it and over such a long time, but there we go.
If it helps anyone the bank have been very nice, saying they will pay any charges for the medical report - it's the priority customer line or something who dealing with vulnerable bank customers going through things like bereavement, health or family breakdown they said. Pay plan have also been very good over the years.0 -
Thanks, I'll have another look at it tomorrow in the daylight.<30

So the people at Lloyds TSB, my main creditor, say they need info that is within the last year- that they couldn't accept my signed care plan with details of my consultant and psychiatrist as it was dated August 2015 (however that's just when they finished it and copied it to me, the info is still the same.
I'm not sure the GP's will fill in a Debt and MH Questionnaire as have just been moved to a new practice as the old one shut and none of the new docs know me. I also don't have a care-co-ordinator anymore.
My diagnosis is psychotic depression and I'm on long term combination of meds (antipsychotics and antidepressants). I could copy them my psychiatric diagnosis but that is in a letter from 2012 so they wouldn't us it i guess as isn't within a year.
It's a bit frustrating as could have done this all a year ago or longer and would have been fine and would have possible have had a year less payments. Hey ho.
I have also included all my PIP paperwork including where it says the descriptor about needing support to make complex budgeting decisions applies to me due to my condition, but they don't seem to be looking at that even though ti applies now (2014-2017 it says)
They (bank) seem to have a think about the info needs to have the surgery stamp on it also as well as the doc's signature- not sure what that's about. It's all extra stress and although I am glad they said would pay the charges its making me quite anxious. Hmm maybe should just leave it.0
