Son Wants Xbox 360 For Xmas

Not that it matters that much, but the game is actually Forza Motorsport 2 - a cracking game by all accounts.'Imagine something inspiring that somebody once said to you and go out there and win!'0

My advice is wait until nearer Christmas, which may be a risk as stocks may run out, but for good reasons.
You may or may not know but the standard XBOX has a 0.80 size chip which is big and gets very hot - too hot in fact - which has caused over a quarter of the original XBOX's made to die after a while.
To fix this problem Micro$oft have made a new, smaller, cooler chip (0.65 size) which will solve this problem.
Obviously in some shops the standard XBOX and the original XBOX Premium package will still have the bigger chip, but as old stocks are sold then the smaller chipped machines will come into play.
Now, the Elite will have the new chip and, we all know Micro$oft with their money, so they are only releasing the Elite with this new chip which forces new buyers to go for the most expensive unit.
So, I suggest you either wait a couple of months and keep an eye peeled for news of the new chipped versions, or simply go for the Elite which is much more reliable a machine.
Also, as mentioned above, steer clear of the Halo era - which will last until Christmas - but should leave the Non-halo version XBOX'es on the shelf for a lot longer and make them cheaper too.0 -

Just to quickly point out - the Elite still uses the old chip, none of the consoles use the new smaller chips just yet. There are plenty of package deals out around the £250 mark, but the price should drop further for xmas, so if you're not in a rush I'd hold off til then. Also Virgin do 10% discount for students and virgin card holders for consoles as well as games (got 10% off my PS3 at launch) so they might be worth a try.0 -

also just to point out ,i bought a 360 premium package from game in glasgow, which is a very busy store..and the manufacture date on it was dec 06 so on that scale if they stared using the new chip tommorow it would be june next year you would maybee get one if the have to get rid of all old stock first, also i wouldnt try to put anyone off buying on as you get a 3 year warranty now on the 360 and microsoft will repair or replace in that time as long as its a three red lights issue which most areDO NOT ARGUE WITH A FOOL,THEY WILL DRAG YOU DOWN TO THERE LEVEL THEN BEAT YOU WITH EXPIERENCE:D0 -
thanks everyone for your advice am now going to wait till nov and hopefully get him a good deal

I think u would be better off with a ps3 sure its a bit more but u have got some quality games on it like resistantance fall of man, motorstorm, Ninja Gaiden, plus a gam just release called warhawk where up to 32 players play at once
One other thing to consider is if your son will playing gmesonline i he is xbox 360 will prov costly as you need a An Xbox Live Gold Membership prices very but to play online for 3 months will cost you £14.99 (£5 per month) it does get cheaper if you buy for 12 months £40 for the year these are prices from game.co.uk
On the PS3 playing online is free not a penny cost so would advise you to check that out and compare but either way both are good consoles0 -
I too am getting my son an Xbox 360 for his christmas and popped into my local game shop for some info.
I was told that although Microsoft say they are not stopping the Core system. he has not had any new deliveries of the Core system for some time.
Looks like they will stop producing it.
If anybody is getting the core system it may be an idea to get it soon. He also said that you can add mostly all of the features of the Elite to the Core system and that basically the console is the same.
I am going for the Core system, most down to budget, my son can have the spec. increased with his birthday, not to forget him having the safistaction of spending his own money on it.Its better to be late in this life than early in the next one.
