Groupon

Options
On seeing a pretty bedding set, that I thought someone would like, flashed up on Facebook , I signed up for the (very frequent) Groupon emails.

Are these offers reliable and are there any things to watch out for ? (I did notice that someone, recently, complained that her hairdo was done by a learner.)

  • It's a bit hit and miss really. Personally I have had more hits than misses.

I regularly use a variety of voucher deal sites: Groupon, LivingSocial, Wowcher, etc... Deal Zippy is a good round-up site that shows deals from most sources.

    If Scotland, there is also:
    5pm.co.uk, itison.com

I tend to buy deals from places that I have already visited so I know what to expect. But I have bought a few overnight stays in hotels and beauty treatments in salons I hadn't visited before. For the most part I have been totally satisfied.

Only twice in as many years have I requested a refund and the deal sites were happy to oblige. One was because the merchant over subscribed and couldn't fulfill the deal and the other the merchant refused to honour the voucher.

As long as you read all t&cs before you buy, you shouldn't be disappointed. If it is limited availability on weekends, I trend to call the retailer first to make sure there is availability before buying.

I don't buy goods from deal sites. you can usually find them cheaper by doing a google search. From people I know that have they have experienced long delivery times and poor quality goods. But you do get what you pay for.

    Hope that helps!
  • I ordered a set if HP Printer ink Cartridges on 16/10/2016 as they where about £10 cheaper than my normal £53 supplier. Very soon they where despatched, with an estimated delivery of 7 days later (pretty poor) but.... The tracking link for delivery did not work properly, it said the items had been despatched from the warehouse.

"However, the item is being sent via Royal Mail unrecorded delivery so I am unfortunately unable to provide any additional tracking information. It'll take 7 working days for your order to be delivered(excluding saturday, sunday and bank holidays)."

Waited a couple of days and emailed them, "
Thanks for getting in touch and my apologies that you haven't yet received your order.
I have checked the deal you have purchased and can confirm that your item is due to arrive by 25/10/2016. We can confirm that your item has been shipped and kindly request that you allow up to one additional week for your item to arrive. This is to allow for any unexpected delays that may impact the delivery of your item.
In the unlikely event that your item does not arrive by 01/11/2016 we kindly request that you reply directly to this email for further assistance. My sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused.
If there’s anything else I can help you with in the meantime, please let me know."
    What? another 7 days?
The only good thing I can say is that this morning I received a refund.

At no point was there any communication from the actual supplier and some research on MSE revealed many OFT warnings form 2011 onwards. Why is nothing being done about them!
DO NOT RECOMMEND THESE TO ANYONE!

Why would I ever risk using these idiots again, ebay/amazon have never let a complaint run more than a week before refund and some suppliers I have used again after than.
