Mortgage advice needed am working but also get benefits

Options
Ok so I'm looking to get a mortgage I work and receive alot in benefits due to all 3 children being in reciept of disability benefits as well as widow payments. My ex put money aside at his mother's in cash for his daughter and a car untill he died and now the parents want to give it to me which is around 24000 towards a mortgage deposit to give their grand daughter a forever home only problem one it's cash so how do I not look like a drug dealer putting that sort of money in the bank! Second with my own savings I will then have a total of 35000 for deposit but alot of mortgages won't take benefits into consideration even with deposit and very good credit with no debts at all yet I pay my full rent in my private rented home no problem and a mortgage will be less to pay so any advice what lenders I could go to?

  • Nationwide accepted my benefits. Does your daughter agree with what's happening with her money did he state in his will that it was for her because I'm not sure his parents can just give it you unless they just got left all his estate. Could be an issue.

A broker will know which lenders may accept your benefits as income and what they will lend you.

Your Disability benefits for your children will not last forever when they turn into adults, have you considered other avenues on how you intend to pay the mortgage?

  • My daughter is 5 is autistic at the severe end of the spectrum wiv adhd she also doesn't talk, in nappies and uses a mobility buggy about to go into a wheelchair, no sense of danger, possibly deaf in one ear etc the list goes on. Her dad put most the money away for a car i think the parents said some for me daughter jus cos never paid a penny for her and moved that maintenance had trouble tracking him down. The parents could have kept the money because I wouldn't had a clue nor is there any will. They know the chances of my daughter leading a life without help is unlikely and because it's private rental I can't make changes to create sensory room etc hence reason they want me to get the mortgage. All 3 have autism and adhd as well as alot of other things, my oldest jus recently went onto pip and it has increased by over 250 a month now he is over 16 so can't see their conditions improving that they won't require future help mayb my middle child may loose his but then he also is on the lowest amount and won't make a major dent if we did loose it as I expect I have less hospital appointments by then and can do more hours work. The thing is rent keeps going up so I will always have to find the money for rent and the mortgage is cheaper even with increase in bank interest so it makes more sense. just gettin accepted is harder than I thought some say they can't count my children's disability payments nor the widow parent allowance one said yes but they changed their mind when going through the mortgage in principle stage! Will try nationwide dalo thanks.
  • Thanks dalo I spoke with nationwide and it looks good they say they can take most of the money except my oldest payments due to his over 16. They also have offered the most amount from any other quote I had anywhere so it's looks like I may be all set jus hav to find a place and put in the offer get all paper work as proof and hope when goes through application process it goes through no problems thanks again.

Just be careful that owning a home has responsibilities as well such repair costs for roof leaking, boiler breaking e.t.c There's no complaining to a LL when things go wrong.

  • My landlord currently doesn't do nothing as it is so tend to pay to fix things myself as they dont count it as major essential work and wen anything has gone wrong such as leaking from the bathroom he sends round cowboys that do a quick fix but i will always have money aside for things like that which I've budget for in my calculations so should be ok but thanks for the advice and warning.
