I'm a Tesla Model 3 reservation holder and a huge fan of Elon Musk and what he's trying to achieve.
Solar City / Tesla have just announced the Powerwall 2 and Solar Roof tiles. Not too much detail on pricing etc. yet but its an excellent idea and hope it is picked up around the world.

$5500 for 14kw battery that's a lot cheaper than current..... Need to do my sums?!6.72kw Pv Ja Solar 280w * 24 panels, Solar Edge inverter, South facing no shading.
South Lake District, delightful view of Morecambe Bay. Not Saving up for a battery too expensive:j:mad::hello:
July Solar target 769kw0 -
Cheers guys, I only skimmed the info, and hadn't picked up on the doubling of kW's & kWh's. That's now a serious piece of kit, that could run, rather than support, a household. Also the inverter is now fully integrated and included, plus mention of an A/C Powerwall. Impressive.
Way over-sized for me, but taking generation, export and bad days into account, I wouldn't import anything for 6 months of the year! Let's hope the price keeps coming down.
Tesla Powerwall 2 is a game changer in home energy storage: 14 kWh w/ inverter for $5,500Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

This site lists the Powerwall 2 at £6,400 installed. So still far from cheap (economical?), but at half the price, which I'd be optimistic about in the next 5 years, it would be interesting ...... so long as you need a battery that big. Anything over 4kWh useable for me, would probably be too big. Then again, it would allow more flexibility for an EV I suppose.Mart. Hi All
If the original 7kWh Powerwall was released to the press at $3000 then the 14 kWh Powerwall2's price is pretty much in line per kWh at ~$430(3000/7) vs ~$395(5500/14) ... this despite the intervening time and plenty of competition forming ....
Plenty of price movement needed before it makes sense ,,,

I'm in the camp where i am struggling to see how battery use on a 4kw system in the UK can utilise the battery as a benefit outiside April to September. Over April to Sept we use between 100 and 150 kWh per month from the grid. So that's £17ish per month for 6 months compared to a battery install. That's 25 yr payback.??0

There are some improvements. The original Powerwall had a useable 6.4kWh, so the new one at 13.5kWh is slightly mnore than double, and they've now packaged the inverter with it.
Perhaps those are worth $1,000 dollars, so $5,500 v's $7,000. It might still be far from economical, but not bad for a year and a half.Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

Here are some prices and information for you about the Tesla Powerwall and Powerwall 2 Battery.
Tesla Powerwall with SMA inverter.
Costs (priced from Wind and Sun)
Tesla Powerwall £3275.00 + VAT
SMA Sunny Boy Storage inverter @ £974.00 + VAT
SMA Energy Meter @ £296.00 + VAT
Labour to fit £300 to £500 approx.
If you want to charge the battery from E7 electric you need the SMA Home manager @ £285 + VAT.
We have a Tesla Powerwall installed and use 16 kWh of electric per day.
Our Solar PV system generates 3500 kWh per year.
Before the Tesla battery was installed we used 40% of our generation 1400 kWh or £168.00. Now with the battery installed we are using all the generated solar power.
We are also charging the battery on E7 and then releasing this power during the day as our solar PV system is only generating 3 to 4 kW per day now. (November time)
We are using this power first thing in the morning when demand is high and we would normally buy expensive electric at this time, expensive electric being 12p per kW.
The battery requires 6.8 kW to fully charge the battery and will discharge to zero 6.4 kW.
It’s best to keep the battery fully charged than fully discharged over the winter months.
The powerwall 2 will be available in February 2017 and has its own internal inverter.
Cost taken from the Tesla website.
Powerwall 2 cost is £5400 + installation and supporting hardware at £1000
Total estimated cost is £6400 and this cost includes VAT at 20% (£1000)

But where's the integration with SE? The SE site still refers to StorEdge which is compatible with the Powerwall but the Tesla site doesn't seem to take this into account. Still it doesn't matter for now was the price is still way too high.Install 28th Nov 15, 3.3kW, (11x300LG), SolarEdge, SW. W Yorks.
Install 2: Sept 19, 600W SSE
