Apprenticeship pay

I'm meant to be starting an apprenticeship soon but I'm a bit concerned about the pay. They said they'll pay £250 a week but from what I've read they should be paying the living wage when you're over 25.
Is some sort of exception made because it's an apprenticeship? Would hmrc not notice this? I think they're trying so hard to do this on the cheap they don't realise they could be breaking the law.

I'm sure if it's your first year of an apprentice its different?
Have you asked them?Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
In your first year of your apprenticeship you are entitled to the living wage for apprentices, no matter your age. If there is a second year AND you are over 19, you then get the standard NLW for your relevant age group.0

They are not breaking the law; the apprenticeship min wage is £3.40 per hour. This changes once you are in second year/19+, but any apprentice can be paid NMAW for the first 12 months.0 -
I see now they can pay a lower rate in the first year. Thanks everyone!0
