Changing Mortgage Lender?

Hi all... I had an offer accepted on a house two weeks ago, and applied for a new mortgage with HSBC. I've been an HSBC/Midland account holder since the early 90s, and had my first mortgage with them in 2010-2015, so I figured it would be easier to stick with them.

I got the AIP instantly, and I was very prompt in submitting the supporting documents to HSBC. However, they seem to be moving rather slowly in terms of reviewing the documents and getting the valuation and homebuyer's survey done.

I'm now considering cancelling my HSBC application and applying to another lender. I haven't paid any fees (yet!). I appreciate that I might being unreasonable as it's only two weeks since I got the ball rolling, but with my last mortgage HSBC had done the valuation within a week of receiving the application. I don't want to find myself in a situation where things are being held up by a slow application process. I was wondering whether it would be ok to apply to another lender, or would it be a silly thing to do?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Getting a mortgage can be quick or slow, but it's relative. What makes you think another lender will be quick with your circumstances?

Have you asked them why? Past week has been half term so may have caused a slowdown in activity generally.
