Job search site passing on your details?

Hi All
At the moment I have been looking for new jobs and have signed up to different Job search sites such as Indeed, Jobsite, Totaljobs etc. But as I have signed up to these job search sites, I have received a lot more nuisance calls from people wanting to do a pension survey, try to sell me life insurance etc. My concern is that as I have uploaded my CV, are these job search sites passing on my details not to employers but to third parties
Im not sure if there is a link here or if its just coincedence but it would be interesting to know if others have had the same problem. I know most of us get nuisance calls but it would be interesting to see if there is a link here.
Cheers

Have you checked their privacy rules? Some indeed do that it is at their faq section.
I use Reed and they say they may do that http://www.reed.co.uk/privacy
Perhaps there is a way to opt out on your profile?ally.0 -
I had NEVER received any spam phone calls on my mobile before registering with several job sites after being made redundant. Then all of a sudden I was getting 3-5 everyday. Same with emails to my Gmail account, it had been spam free until then.
Totally down to these sites I am sure. When you are applying for jobs and the phone rings it is so depressing finding it is some dodgy company on the other end.0 -
Dont apply for silly looking jobs like ones with OTE of £100k and ones with very poor grammar etc.0

They shared maybe but may be a coincidence.0

It makes no difference what you apply for, the details always get passed on.
But to who? That is what matters, if it is getting passed on to someone trying to find you work then its not a problem. O/P is talking about people who have no interest in finding him/her work.
Shouldn't throw the baby out with the bathwater.
In my case, i applied for a bunch of jobs and eventually started getting calls on a regular basis asking if I was interested in this and that, one of those calls landed me the job I have today, a job i didn't think I would have got due to lack of experience and didn't even have to apply for it. It certainly not a black and white issue.0 -

Many of them do not result in job applications - they are pure spam.0 -
When I submitted my resume on PlacementIndia.com then I didn't face this kind of problem. You should read the privacy policy of that site where you submit your detail. But famous job portal doesn't act like this as you said.0

Yes, it is a problem with some genuine sites.
I recall if eg people applied to 'Liverpool Jobs', that unless they unticked the box at the bottom, their CV was uploaded.
Their details were also shared without their consent.
I think this practice was changed, after a jobseeker complained to the ICO, as they were receiving calls re jobs in Manchester etc (as presumably the same firm owned both the Lpool Jobs & Manc Jobs sites).
If eg a recruitment consultant moved firms and took your details with them that would be a breach as you only gave the firm consent to act on your behalf and contact you in future.
[There's also currently an investigation being undertaken, as the DWP's Universal Jobmatch site has resulted in some jobseekers receiving unsolicited calls from claims companies re PPI, deafness and so on. It's not yet known if this is just down to a few rogue individuals or whether the site is easily penetrable/was hacked. Anything like this should be reported as the MoJ can fine firms and the City of London Police also has a UK-wide specialist team which raids rogue claims management companies]Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.0 -
Yes, I was bombarded with calls from PPI/survey/pension/insurance claims after applying for jobs or registering on job seeker sites. I never answer calls from an unknown caller, google them (which invariably leads to websites where the number is marked as a nuisance call) and then block their number.
However, blocking numbers has only a limited effect - there seems to be dozens of 'companies' cold calling me on new numbers, months after registering my CV.0
