  • Where did you go for your burger and sweet potato fries? I seem to find myself in that area fairly often. There are a couple of places I quite like to eat but they are not as affordable so only go on a special occasions.
  • EH the Manchester Beer Festival, and the Good Food Show - Brum edition, seem to come round faster and faster each year! It's amazing that there is time for you to save up the pennies for each in the interim!

Or is Greying just getting old..........:rotfl:

I was just thinking the same Greying about myself though.

    Enjoy chickie.

Scared to come anywhere near your house, might be fitted into kitchen or hit by an impending window.

    Sounding well busy me dear.

    Well done!

It was the Lion & Snake Misty - which is at the top of the Bailgate I think? Various people had different things to eat but everyone agreed it was nice - just that cut above standard "pub grub" but well prices. Of course if you're in that neck of the woods at lunchtime and need a sandwich you can't go wrong with the Dambusters Inn at Scampton - YUM!

Yes, I'm slightly twitchy about getting accidentally buried under a floor or something similar myself! :rotfl:

Busy, yes - but good busy, well I think so anyway! :D

Manchester was fun - and actually a lot less spendy than expected, too. Admission was actually £10 but barring a few 10p's here and 20p's there to make up amount of beers bought, that was all I spent at the festival itself - no, hang on, 80p on a couple of postcards for a friend of mine. :rotfl: Breakfast each morning was £10 but that was a HUGE breakfast and we didn't need lunch either day as a result. Pal bought my dinner on Saturday night, and we bought his breakfast in return on Sunday, so that balanced out. Aside from a few beers in pubs Friday night, that was it. Pretty happy with that.

Got my "everything happening" day on Friday - windows, kitchen planning and water meter assessment. It would be lovely to think that somewhere in there I could find time to dive out and get the shopping as well but we'll see.

Trying to plan meals now so we're using things up so far as we can. Also having to remember that I need to not replace things automatically as and when they're used at the moment. Of course the flip-side of that is that as I'm planning meals that involve things we've now used all of, I have to remember to add those "standard" items to the shopping list, too! Anyone else see what's going to happen here? :rotfl: Anyway last night was a Thai veggie curry with butternut squash - that used a can of coconut milk from the freezer and a dollop of a not-great-on-toast peanut butter from the cupboard. Tonight is going to be baked tatties with bacon, beans and cheese. We have a baked bean mountain and I have NO idea why! Might be sweetcorn fritters with those too (yep - you've guessed it - can of sweetcorn needs used!). Tomorrow is going to be chilli I think - that'll deal with the last can of chopped toms from the cupboard too. I'll add the thai curry back to the plan again for next week as I've got more coconut milk yet. :D

    All good.

Oh well in that case it would rude of me NOT to make them then, no? I'll lob one over (best put your own sauce on though, it'll be messy if not) :rotfl:

Mine's as easy as...1 egg - add flour (I don't fuss about plain or SR - whichever comes to hand first as they don't really "rise" anyway) and whisk - I use enough flour that you *almost* can't whisk any more in, if that makes sense. Then let down with milk to the texture of double cream or slightly thicker. Lob in a drained can of sweetcorn, salt & pepper, mix together and fry. Last night they were fried in rapeseed oil with a knob of chipotle butter (Lurpak freebie MrEH got given at the station yonks ago!) added and that worked nicely. I've been known to add a spot of smoked chilli to the batter mix though just for a background warmth.
Proper comfort food - ideal for a cold night. I usually do about 4 blobs of the mix, but you could do smaller bite sized blobs instead. :D

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: That's all of us though, right?!

Cashed out £5 on opinion Outpost this morning - straight to PayPal, and PayPal have transferred straight to my bank on withdrawal - no wait at all. Irritatingly though I can't transfer to the card until I get home as Nationwide are insisting they want the transaction checked on my card reader. Sigh. I'm all for security, but it's a FIVER for pete's sake! :rotfl:

I made tonight's chilli when I got in last night - so that's one less job to do when I get home later. The traffic's been painful these last few weeks too so I'll not complain at a time-saver when I get in. (Plus everyone knows that sort of thing tastes better the next day! I'll add a teaspoon of smoked paprika and a tablespoon of lime juice tonight to perk it up a bit, too.

Need to come up with ideas for using up the FOUR cans of red kidney beans I apparently still have in the cupboard too. I seem to recall that Jack Monroe's veg burgers use them though so may investigate that as a thought. Decent way of hiding carrots too, no? (Yes - just checked, I may add them to the meal plan for the weekend - and will probably substitute some of the carrot for a parsnip as MrEH will rebel if I give him something obviously "carroty") Now need a recipe for authentic-ish Scottish morning rolls I can serve them in - perfect texture for burgers!
