Contradictory gym contract

I've just signed up for a 6 month's gym contract. I was advised that contracts must start on the 1st of the month and I must pay monthly on the 1st by direct debit. I had the option to pay pro-rata for any days between when I wanted to start and the 1st of the month. I declined this option and asked to start on 1st November.

I was then told it was too late to get a DD in place for November so I would have to pay November by an alternative method.

The membership lady printed out my contract which unfortunately was incorrect as it mentioned 12 payments. She scribbled this out, saying that it was a computer glitch and she'd fix it and I only had 6 payments as i was signing up for 6 monthly. I admit (totally my fault) that due to being focussed on checking she made the same changes to the gym copy of the contract I didn't check the change clearly. So instead of signing up to 6 payments, I have signed up to a minimum period of 6 direct debit payments i.e. 7 months as I'd paid the first month on a card.

However ... in the section where it has last payment date the lady has hand written 1st April (which would be correct for a 6 month period from 1st Nov-30th April). I got home and realised that the number of direct debit payments should be 5 as it's not possible to have 6 monthly direct debit payments between 1st Dec and 1st April. I emailed the membership lady to let her know and ask for her to confirm in writing, but she has instead written back to say that I am obliged to sign up for a minimum 6 direct debit payments and she had written 1st April due to "miscounting" and it should be 1st May.

I'm not happy with this but don't know what to do now. I'm not sure how much my contract is actual valid on the basis it contradicts itself!
