O/S Daily Friday 28 October 2016
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark here, dry underfoot as we had no rain yesterday or during the night, I put a line of washing out as there was quite a breeze, washing was out all day but didn't get properly dry - but will still keep putting it out whilst it's not raining. Today's forecast doesn't look very promising.
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work, and DS2 still in his pit, but I'll wake him shortly as he's going into college to continue with his NCS.
Dinner last night was HM chicken, bacon and mushroom pie, mash, kale, carrots, HG green beans, peas and gravy - was delicious, no leftovers. Tonight I'm not sure so need to get something whilst doing the food shopping this morning, i'm stuck also for a meal for Saturday night dinner too.
Yesterday started off ok, visited town and building society, bank and the butchers, got home and checked online banking to make sure the cash I'd just paid in was showing (I usually use the machine inside the bank and have had instances where I've paid cash in and then not got a receipt - how do you prove you've paid money in when that happens?) The cash was showing paid in, now this morning it's not showing, but I do have a receipt, I'm thinking that possibly the computer's haven't finished the overnight run and updated - I'll keep checking and I have to go into town later so will call in if I'm still not happy. I then spent quite a while just on pc and not really achieving anything, knowing I had loads to do but not doing it, then I decided I should get on, so got going with some housework, got into our bedroom and decided that the cupboards next to our bed needed a good sort out, so got stuck in to that and spent majority of the afternoon doing that then proceeded to do more housework in the rest of the house, not a deep clean at all, but our bedroom looks so much better, got rid of loads of rubbish, why I was keeping it I don't know! I've decided if I can, I'll be trying to pick 1 part of the house a week to concentrate on - whilst then doing a light clean of the rest, hopefully eventually everywhere will have been done and then it'll be easier to keep on top of. My low mood was so much better once I'd kept busy and felt like I'd achieved something.
Today I'll be heading to the SM first thing, then I need to tackle the ironing, I haven't got to the bottom of the dirty wash basket as wanted to get everything line dried, and it wasn't drying that quickly, I'll be continuing with washing and drying today. I do need to do some baking/cooking too.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Wet and windy last night but quite calm this morning, looks like it could be quite a nice day here.
Conservatory cleared ready for the kitchen delivery this afternoon, must make sure I am ready to leave work sharpish to let them in. Also need to work out who is paying for this, not sure if the builder is putting it on his account or I am paying.
Speky - I hope your day is better, maybe your boss is worried for his job!
Happy Friday everyone, take care. XX0 -
Morning all,
Cooler here again this morning but too dark to see what the weather is doing
Off to work for me but its Friday and we have only two clients in today so a quiet day, unlike the other site where it has been frantically busy ! I think I have picked the right place this week !!
Last night I saw a recipe on TV which was chicken bits saut!ed off with some halved cherry tomatoes and a tin of tomatoes and some fresh chilli, this was then tossed into some cooked spaghetti and served with parmesan on the top, so we are going to try this for dinner with a hunk of crusty bread to dip in, it looked lovely and a nice simple meal.
OH got home early last night and managed to get Evie out for her walk in the daylight so she was much better, a firework went off on the TV though and she was frightened, I think this may be a slow process.
Hope you all have good says xx
Specky hope your day is a good one today xx0 -
Morning folks and thanks for the thread NMLC. The 3 DGDs are all still fast asleep so that's my excuse for sitting doing nothing and being very quiet!
We have a knitting day ahead. DGD(8) was given assorted knitting kits for her birthday last week by a bright spark who doesn't know one end of a knitting needle from another! Your grandma will help you with them she says!! Don't you just love people like that?!
Yesterday's hospital appointment for Mr TA's inj went well, straight in and out! Then the express bus to pop in on DS when he finished work went smoothly too. The problems arose when we got to the small train station for our journey back home. We were met with crowds of people (mainly very noisy youngsters) and utter chaos, to be told trains were all running behind. It turned out someone had thrown themself on the track in front of a train further up the line. OMG how desperate they must have been to resort to that.
Nothing planned for today, amusing children and knitting (!!) until the novelty wears off are the only plans we have. There's a bit of last night's Pasta Bake left over so that will do for their lunch with pizza.
Have a good day and (((HUGS))) to all needing/wanting them. Esp LAINEY and DM. I am gritting my teeth at the thought of HESTER's upset regarding the comments passed by her DH's line manager. Who does that woman think she is passing a judgement like that, on something she knows nothing about! Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all.
I too am hoping for a calmer day after yesterday's rain and wind. Teaching session was much better than before, we moved to a smaller room which, I think, helped. Plus they're resigned to having to do communication skills!
Today I'm picking up a woman from Tarbert and taking her to visit her husband in hospital- the same woman who suffers from dementia and spun me a wonderful story about her husbands accident. Luckily he's been moved from Glasgow to the local hospital.
Apart from that I have nothing much planned, oh...there's a short event at the local museum tonight to launch their development plan. I said I'd go to it. It's now a definite maybe.
Camelot - the arrival of new kitchen is exciting, it's a start.
TA - you drew a memory from me of my lovely grandmother teaching me to knit, she was so patient with me. I'm sure you'll be the same.
RR - Evie is in good hands, poor wee thing.
That's all folks for now.
Happy Friday everyone.0 -
Morning everyone,
Dry here and like others the wind has died down, we had a stunning sunset last night so hopefully the nice day will follow.
Must admit when I read Hester's post re the HR ladies comments my first thought was that the company was trying to deflect the blame from themselves for her hubbie's health problems?
Not loads planned for today, need to get some fresh bits from the shops but am trying to eat up the freezer stores as have a tendency to put my YS bargains in there and never eat them!
Mind, after all that we did go out for a meal last night but felt needed a treat, we tried a new brassiere that had opened up in Ely, the place was empty when we arrived but really don't understand why, the food was delicious and not overpriced at all. Let's hope they can make a go of it.
Will pop over to see DM this afternoon, she is doing well at the moment but gets tired easily, the time with her is so precious and am certainly making the most of it x
Have a good day everyone, take care folks x0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread NMLC, RR I hope Evie doesn't have any more frights. Hugs for Lainey & her Mum, the TA's both the wolfies, Hilstep & Speky I hope things improve at work.
My L&M had another call from Occ Health, she suggested CBT, she went on to say that the waiting list is very long and so he'd probably be best paying to go privately. Obviously his line manager is worried that work will be expected to pay, hence her enthusiasm for pointing the finger of blame in my direction!
I spent yesterday morning with 3 of my DGD's aged 9, 5 and 2, as they were leaving the 5yo said 'You are so kind to us Nana, I really hope you don't die soon' I told I was not planning on it just yet.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Good morning chums,
Yesterday was a half decent day at work, rarely saw the big boss and when I did he seemed in a good mood. Managed to stop off a the gym on the way home and got home and caught up on the GBBO. A deserved winner.
Tonight probably won't be much different. I'm working tomorrow so it doesn't feel like a Friday just yet.
camelot - I think you're right. I believe he has a lot of pressure on him and he was just venting with 'the new guy'.
Lainey - have a lovey day with you DM.0 -
Morning all
Hugs to those who need them x
Off to take mum to the hospital then shopping today so thats my day pretty much gone . Will be doing my shopping tonight as we have a voucher that needs using up so i think it will be fish finger sandwiches and soup for tea
Have a great day whatever you are up to0 -
Good morning everyone!
I've decided I'm going to try posting on here more regularly as use it as a way of sort planning/being accountable for doing stuff...let's see how it goes!
I must say that I'm always impressed at how early you all get up hehe. I'm working the late shift tonight so had a lie to try and fend off my cold, which has now moved to my chest and is making me feel pretty glum.
This morning, I am going to declutter my bedroom - sorting out and putting away all my clothes mainly, and then going through all the bits and bobs on the little shelves in my wardrobe as seeing what can be made to disappear! If I'm feeling up to it I might also take the dog for a walk but I don't want to wear myself out before work. My shift starts at 12.30pm and I'm there until 20.30pm, my least favourite shift but at least I got to stay in bed a little longer! I've been offered a lift in which is marvellous! Just received a text to say there is a power-cut though, so I will probably have to use a lot of brain power today, just paper and calculator. It's been very slow recently though, very few customers; I work in a bureau de change and the rates are so low and we are heading towards the slowest season, just before it picks up again at Xmas... On the plus side, lots of time to read my course books for uni!
I hope you all have a nice day and get everything you wanted to get done sortedTake nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints!0 -
Morning all, hope everyone has a good day today.
Haras, the reason I tend to be up at 4, as I was today, is nothing to do with any intention of productivity but an annoying inability to sleep. But I have made half a baby jumper.
Off for some craft supplies soon, don't especially want to go out on this dull day but I need to. And some root veg for a casserole.
At some point I must get my hair cut, I tend to wait until I can tuck it in the waistband of my trousers and then get a foot or so lopped off but don't enjoy going so will have to work up to it. I wear it coiled up so it doesn't make much difference to others but now it is getting tangle. To the extent where I got a knot in it the other day and ended up snipping it out as it wouldn't brush out.
LaineyT I am glad to see that you had fun at the brassiere. Hester, that is ridiculous.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0
