Is this engagement ring worth the price tag?

Hello,

I've been looking for an engagement ring for my girlfriend for absolutely ages. I've finally found one that she likes:

fraserhart.co.uk/9ct-white-gold-0-40-carat-diamond-ring.hmtl

I've been quoted £1599 to have this done in platinum (rather than the white gold). I've tired negotiating on price, but they don't seem to want to. The top end of my budget is £1300.

My question is. Is it good value for money? Can i negotiate further?

Why not just go to an independent? You will get a lot more for your money.

Well, I guess if the company aren't willing to come down on price, that's the end if your negotiation.
Are they aware that you'll walk away if they can't/won't come down to your budget?

Just because you've found a design that your girlfriend likes it doesn't mean you have to buy it from that shop.

As for whether it's good value for money, take a look at some of the online shops to see how much a .4 carat diamond of the same colour & clarity costs.
  • I would recommend you to search in local market possibly you will get better price!
  • There are independent jewellers all over the place who can make bespoke rings. You may be able to talk to them about recreating a ring you've seen? They could add a special touch to make it unique, too!

My engagement ring was from RING Jewellers which are in Brighton. I can recommend them wholeheartedly.
  • having bought an engagement ring recently I can recommend that you shop around. I can't see the ring your looking at, but the CT and platinum is the same as the ring I got and I paid around £1,100 (they voluntarily reduced the price by £200 without me even having to ask).

Stay away from the chain stores and go to independent/local jewelers and they will be a lot more accommodating.
