    Good Afternoon :hello:

Thank you for all your kind wishes - Here's hoping for a brilliant 2018 for all of us :D

DH is desparately in need of sturdy 'everyday' shoes or trainers for driving, visiting, ambling etc. Ideally, he could do with some walking boots, too, but that's really going to involve some ££'s and may be a step too far this month, but we'll see.

Ta for popping in and being so supportive. Life is so much richer with you in it.

    Greying X

    Happy New Year :D

Just wanted to offer my advice regarding good sturdy all round footwear / boots...
HIGHLY RECOMMEND the current issue British Army boots, available on FleaBay for under £40 for good condition used... Have a pair myself which I initially got for general pottering about in but did my most recent hike in the snowy Borders with them. Waterproof, comfy and great grip on them. They're made by HAIX, best combat boots I've ever had and highly rated by the squaddies themselves ;) They should come with washable insoles, if not GoOutside ;) will have decent insoles for em.
OK, I think I've gone on enough about how good they are... I'll get me coat...

It is important that we know where we come from, because if you do not know where you come from, then you do not know where you are, and if you don't know where you are, then you don't know where you are going. If you don't know where you're going, you're probably going wrong.

  • Good Evening :hello:

WannabeFree - right backatcha lovely - hope 2018 is a brilliant one for you and your wee brood :D

Pippi - remember you are doing well, remember you know all this stuff :D and if all else fails, jus 'remember you're a womble' and have a boogey round the kitchen and a laughfor a few moments. You've alot on ;) :kisses3:

UncannyScot - that was a brand I was unaware of - thank you for the heads up, we'll certainly throw it into the mix :D

Well, tea has been scoffed :D There are left over black-eye peas, as I always cook a batch in the pc, so they will be frozen and wheeled out at another grazing opportunity :D

BG has been wonderful today. They change so much and learn so quickly each day. DH has got to watch what he does now - BG picks up on his every movement, and whilst he thinks he messing around, or showing off, BG thinks it is how to do things........ :doh:We did go out for a walk; a breath of fresh air and some exercise. BG managed to fall in the only puddle anywhere near in sight............ *sigh* :rotfl: No damage done, and their clothes went into the wash on our return.

I've updated the accounts book for January, and unfortunately it transpired that DH must have forgotten to pick up an item of shopping in mrL, yesterday, which has been paid for, but hasn't made it home. Needless to say, it was over £2, and I can understand, really I can, as DH did have BG with him, but.................. I suppose it will be worth an ask to see if they remember DH forgetting. DH is livid with himself - as I would be if it were me that had done it. It was the first item through the till (according to the receipt) too. Not a good start to the UFM! :(

I have done my meal plan for the next week. I have found a new recipe to use up some of my stores, including some nuts, which are 6 months out of date, but, thankfully, are not rancid, so will be eaten :D

    Today I am grateful for these 3 things;

leisure time with DH & BG

Ta for popping in, it's appreciated. Greatly.

  • Morning Mrs - boo to left items in shops - would they have it sitting there? Or is it a pain to go? Thanks for the kind words sweetie - I didn't know the website and had a mooch for UFM and did a dance around the kitchen thank you for reminding me to do that. I hope BG wasn't looking as its NOT how to dance.

Love that you had a nice day with BG and DH - MIL also managed to splosh in the ONLY puddle on the short walk out - thankfully she had her good strudy boots on. Niece was in fits so joined granny in the puddle - she DIDN't have sturdy boots on.

Oh well a bit of a splash is always fun, when soggy-ness ensued the walk went all the quicker.

Well done on the meal plan once we wave off the visitors I'll get on with ours.

    Have a gud un today.

    PS I did giggle at non-rancid nuts. {Applause}

Hehe! Kids have an uncanny knack of finding the only bit of mud (or in this case puddle) for miles around. :rotfl:Glad BG only went for a swim though and wasn't hurt.

How annoying about the left item. Is it worth asking at the shop?

  • Good morning :hello:

BG's coat and clothes are now dry - we're all set for more adventurising, when it's safe to go out..............

Needless to say, DH didn't ask in mrL had they 'found' an extra bag of nuts. He also managed to get a sneery response from the check-out lass for inadvertently having an 'old' £1 coin in his proffered money. And we must ask ourselves, which shops had DH been shopping in before yesterday? Ah yes, mrL..............Whilst we would be the first to agree that it is not legal tender and they were under no legal obligation to accept it, there are ways of declining to accept. Gosh, must be wonderful to sit in such a postition of power......Perhaps her button is even bigger than Donald's...... I wish the old staff would come back to our mrL, they were all so nice........... Either that, or we must try harder to 'stay out of all the shops' during UFM - January.......

Tea last night was mixed root veg soup, using up odds and ends of my Christmas 29p-a-bag stash - which has kept very well in the fridge - thank you mrT. I served with flatbreads. Made them too wet - but they kinda worked, and we ate them. BG even tried pieces :j

Tonight's tea will be spiced pilau with beets - to use up my beetroot stash from mrAl. I see that they are included in the S6 again, this week :rotfl:I still have rather alot :o

Yesterday's 'thought' under UFM involved thinking about whether you wanted (for example) 'those shoes today' or ''mortgage freedom within 5 years' - depending on your priorities/goals. Funnily enough, I found myself contemplating a project, pricing up materials and getting all excited, and then realising that it a) wasn't a priority b) would suck at least £30 out of my budget c) would 'steal' time from house projects/tasks and d) wasn't actually needed (it was a 'wishful' want). It's entirely my fault, as I made the mistake of signing up to 'p1ntere$t' whilst whiling away yet more wee small hours of the morning......... I fell down the rabbit hole, good and proper!

    Right, best get on.

  • Well done on coming out of the other side of the wabbit hole. I find UFM links very interesting and something to ponder (like car picnics), some of the ideas are very simple but doable - thanks for that original link.

Sounds like the folks in them there shops are grumpy to be back at work, poor DH. I think our post office still takes them and some charities still do or did I make those both up?

Love beetroot - although I saw a risotto made with it on the tellybox last night. It did not look good. I'll stick with the beetroot brownies.

    Passes the tin.

    Have a gud un.

Sorry about the grumpy staff Greying! I worked in a shop for five years as a teenager and I'm afraid I was sometimes told off for 'not being cheerful enough' :o :rotfl: in my case it was never about being rude, but not having a smile on my face every time someone walked in the door. I learned a lot about customer service in that job (and also learned to value a DECENT job with nice colleagues when I eventually got them...)

Well done on your frugal month dodge! :j you've reminded me (as I sit here in a cafe drinking our savings away) to think about the goals properly. I have a notebook in front of me so will crack on right now :j

Pippi - regrettably this lass is grumpy all the time. And since they've been given those blu-toof earset thingies, she's clearly thinking she's pivotal to the shop.................................................. Ah well, 'walk a mile in other's shoes' and all that. I think you're right about charities accepting the old £1 coins - I've an idea the sally armee do, and I'm sure I've seen a sign up elsewhere in a chazzer in Greying Town. Also, when I was in the building society the other day, a bloke swopped a couple that he'd found in his glove compartment, in the car. Mind, that was before the end of december, perhaps I've missed the deadline for swapping at banks?

Cheery - there are some people that thrive in a retail environment and others that don't. I wouldn't, I know it. I'm not enough of a 'people' person, and I realise that not all customers are nice, either. Yes, easy to 'drink away' savings, isn't it? I just found myself on the 'P' site again! Must.Stop! I might have to unhook myself - they've sent 3 emails in under 24 hours as it is!

[STRIKE]I had hoped I would get a delivery today. There were no guarantees, but the company is usually quite good, and RM usually gets it here. But I don't think it's coming, so I'll have to wait another day. Patience not being my strong suit.....[/STRIKE]. :rotfl:

Edit: YAY! the postie has just been. Not our usual one, so hence the later delivery I guess (having to do several 'rounds'?) and they had my parcel :j They usually get delivered by the van, but I guess this wasn't as bulky as normal (craft bits). Now it means I can slash my stash of bits and pieces and make some things and create space :j We also had our final Christmas card......... Not too sure whether the sender was a 'little behind' with their admin, or whether it's been sat somewhere for a few weeks............. Ah well, good to know they're safe and well and thinking of us :D
