Bored office worker

I have a temp job that is sometimes very busy but most of the time not very busy. It does require me to be very organised and on the ball and absolutely no skiving off! I like my job and it is well paid so I don't want to leave but am wondering what I can do in my less busy periods? Ideas please?
Apart from reading these lovely forums and checking my credit report etc. :-)
Are there any good blogs/inspiring web pages/what would you be looking at on the internet (at work) ?

You should spread your work sufficiently so that there is minimal 'downtime'0

Guest101 what a silly comment to make as usual from you, Katie_Saver there are plenty of things to do keep you from going mad and if you like reading perhaps look at some books online or enter comps and so on, Blogs as you say well try and expand on these and look at other areas of interest.0

You must've read the OPs workplace policies on internet use?0 -
Guest 101 - Offering the same old resentment against the world, I see.The opposite of what you know...is also true0

Well given that the OP suggested it in the first place it's not unreasonable to provide direct answers to the question asked.
Your response, while a good suggestion if possible, may well not be if the work that does come in has to be dealt with quickly rather than left for hours/days to complete.0 -

True enough, but equally if the employer discovers the OP is browsing the web during work hours then it could mean the sack.0 -
I think you need to be asking your manager/supervisor the question.
I am not sure that any workplace would be happy with you doing stuff for yourself whilst they were paying you!
Have you read the works policy of internet use for personal reasons? I doubt what your are describing would be allowed, whilst most companies will allow the odd minute or two to look up some personal information what you are describing is a lot more than that.0 -
One option is to ask/look for more work things that can be done between the primary tasks that you are employed to do.
Do you want to become more than a temp, are there things you could be training yourself up on that are important to the company and could help you when vacancies happen.0
