It certainly is. I've learned so much and I'm still learning.
By far the most valuable aspects are that it keeps me focused and I have conversations in my head like "Do I actually need it? Would something I have do instead?". The impact on your bank balance is amazing and I find I get more of a buzz from resisting temptation than from spending!
I also like the way in which you are 'picked up' when you feel like you've failed. Nobody ever judges :AOriginal mortgage £112,000 . Final payment due August 2027.
Mortgage neutral achieved August 2020 - 7 years early!!!0 -
pinkypig , good to know I'm not the only one who gives herself a good talking to at times
I look at stuff ,especially in the supermarkets and think I could make that cheaper and nicer and think if only more folk thought that way. I think I must be strange as I seem to be the only person who doesn't think pizza is a meal
My grandsons all rave about different ones but the idea of eating a flat piece of pastry with basically anything piled on top and paying a fiver odd for it just leaves me cold
For a fiver I would want a full chicken roast dinner to feed at least four people plus the left overs to be turned into a curry (more meals ) and the bones etc into the slow cooker with a few veg and recycled into soup for lunches. But then I am a frugal old woman who perhaps because I grew up without 'fast food ' just thinks a fiver is a lot to pay for so little food value in a pizza.0 -
Ah JackieO, you need to taste REAL pizza before knocking it! Well made dough, with a decent tomato topping, real mozzarella and fresh basil is the stuff of the Gods! And it can be made at home for pennies!
When my kids were at home I would buy ready made pizza bases and topped them, then discovered L!dl pack of 3 pizzas, worked out at 60p each, and I would add toppings.
Never buy expensive pizzas in supermarkets, you can make so much better at home! Even better if you can make the dough from scratch, too.
Edited to say: you can also turn a basic pizza into a nutritiously decent meal, by using good quality flour, a decent amount of cheese, fresh tomato slices, a good handful of rocket, or grilled courgettes, or a nice ham topping, any variations on the good carb base, good protein topping, and accompany with a salad, or for fussy eaters just a piece of fruit at the end INSTEAD OF pudding.
In fact I just remembered that many years ago I won a competition run by Martin here on OS, with a pizza recipe! Will look for link and post it if I find it.
Got it! My post is no. 8 and I was well chuffed to discover I won the https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6865Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0
