PC won't start after installing printer

Installed new Epson XP-860 on my Windows 7 PC yesterday afternoon. All appeared well, printer printed and all functions worked. Removed old printer drivers etc. Came to start up this morning and after Windows is starting up, then log-in screen (correct password applied) whirly wait wheel as per usual then nothing, blank screen, although monitor was still receiving signal. Had to start in safe mode, restore then recover. Now working, except have to reset my main screen design and had to reload Firefox - for some reason whatever it was removed the .exe file.
As well as the drivers I installed several utilities from the Epson CD, namely CD printer, Easy photo print and a couple of Epson portals.
Anybody come across this before?

Hmm, I think you should have removed your old printer drivers and software first then rebooted before installing the new software and drivers if that was Epson as well.
For future reference a restore was probably not necessary and the first route to go down would have been safe mode > clean boot to see what may have been causing a hang:

Another coincidental possibility may be file corruption, run a chkdsk and look at checking your HDD health with a program such as crystal disk info, use the portable version.
This is a lesson in having regular back ups in case something goes Pete Tong, invest in a back up drive if you don't have one.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
Looking rather odd and a bit naughty!
Cannot say I have come across anything similar.....but a few thoughts....
Have you installed latest drivers from Epsom web site. Have noted that a few issues are reported regarding compatibility but I have no details.
Could it be the exec file was still there (did you check?) as maybe it was a registry problem?
Nevertheless a bit annoying. It does sound as if something or other was corrupted and I agree with fights back approach to try and find what was hanging it in the first place.......hindsight now!0 -
Thanks guys. Fortunately I do have a back-up routine onto a 2TB portable external drive and it is up to date. I did remove the old printers and drivers first (or at least I asked for it to be done through Control Panel, Devices & Printers, Remove Printer). After the new printer was installed from CD, it then went into a loooong (and I do mean long) update software routine and kept coming up with portals for this, that and the other. All now gone.
I did start in safe mode but, because I had recently installed new drivers etc. my first thought was a corruption or clash. Have removed all printers (old & new) and carried out a restart successfully and have also created another restore point (just in case). More later if further tests prove helpful.0
