New 'ethical' toaster

Hi might seem bit of a daft question, but I need a new toaster. Was about to buy at cheap one from Tescos or woolies, but strikes me taht they are so cheap that they must be made with cheap labour somewhere.
Is there a website that I can consult to see what goods are made in places where the staff are paid properly.
thanks

I assume you mean something like the 'Fair Trade' scheme for consumables like coffee, fruit etc?
The trouble with all appliances these days it is almost impossible to trace the manufacturing process. Even the premium German brands often get their goods from places like China and stick their label on(Badge engineering) or all the parts are manufctured abroad and simply assembled by another manufacturer.0 -
Yeah, that was what I meant.
just thought there would be something similar to 'fair trade' after all the publicity about clothes being made in sweat shops and the like.0 -

Try the Gooshing website
www.gooshing.co.uk
It's a shopping directory that rates companies and their products on their 'ethical' credentials. It wont provide specific info on where the toaster is made or the wages of the people involved in making them but it is a good reference point in trying to shop more responsibly.0
