How do I ask to be demoted from a supervisor?

I was made supervisor about a year ago but latley I'm so stressed and I don't want to go to work because of it! I'm also on medication for depression so I don't want to make it even worse! What do I say to my manager about this?
Also Is it bad to demote yourself? Like is it a failure?

People management is not for everyone - I know for a fact that I would hate managing people as I'm simply not a "people person".0

Have you talked to your line manager? Is there anything which they might be able to to do (either long or short term) to make the job more manageable, or any specific parts of the job you are finding difficult, and whether there is any scope for changing your role without stright demotion.
If you feel that there isn't. then I suggest you speak to your line manager, explain that you appreciate having had the opportunity to try the supervisor role but have come to the conclusion that it isn't a good fit for you, and ask whether you can return to your previous role.
It can be awkward going back to being one of the the crowd, and you may find that colleagues assume you've been demoted, so things may not just go back to the old ways.
However, you wouldn't normally have any entitlement to change roles (even to go back to an old role) so your employer doesn't have to agree.
Good Luck. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -

Were you slotted into this role or did you apply for a promotion?Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -
For a previous employer I was offered and accepted a demotion. I should say that it was a demotion from a role that I didn't apply for. Lost a fair amount of pay but I was much happier in accepting the role that I did apply for.
To the OP you ask the question. They may be so pleased that you are making the decision and not them.0 -
Is the role available at the lower level? Could you hold out for someone to go. Yes I have seen it done a Supervisor (who didn't want to be known as such) waited until the Agent confirmed her notice and then asked to drop down and take the leavers position, it actually went down well all round with the agent leaving feeling less bad and only to glad she knew who was replacing her so there are advantages.0

Just explain to your boss its not working out and you would be happier to step down from supervisor.0
