Help with United Utilities debt?

I would be very grateful if anyone can help.
I still owed United Utilities for some water rates from 06/07 so I was paying this to Moorcroft Debt Recovery, however UU passed on this years bill 07/08 straight to the recovery company and I'm now paying 50.00pm. I've just spoken to Moorcroft on the phone and they said unless I pay off all the arrears by March 2008 then UU will pass next years bill onto them automatcially also. I asked if I could just carry on paying the outstanding debt to them and then pay my new bill to UU but they guy on the phone said that UU won't let me do that as long as I have arrears on the account.
Surely this can't be right? I'm not refusing to pay anything and it would be so much easier for me to pay off the old bill and pay the new one as normal. Basically I'm stuck and if this carries on I'll be behind with my bills for years to come! (unless I get a substantial payrise or win the lottery)
I hope I've explained that okay and if anyone knows if that's true or if there is a way around it, it's much appreciated.

This seems a bit sus to me. I can't see why UU would pass this years rates straight to debt recover. How much of last years debt is left to pay? Could you borrow this off family to get you back on track? Might be worth a phone call to the CAB to see what they say about it.

I'm not quite sure why it makes any difference to you... are there extra charges or what ?0

Have you spoken to UU about this? Contact their "having trouble paying your bill" people on 0845 746 2034,
They also run a scheme where they match £ for £ every £ you pay (on a 13 week period basis) - it saved me a fortune when they delayed sending a bill to my new home for 18months, then wanted 3yrs bills in one!0 -
Clapton, if I carry on paying to the debt recovery company I will never get straight as I cannot clear enough of the balance before they add next years on. The total at the moment is 900 quid, If I carry on paying my 50pm then by March I'll still owe 650 plus another years water charges. It would be so much better if I could just pay UU their bill next year and pay off the debt at a rate I can afford (even this 50 quid a month is a bit of a stretch and Moorcroft want 92!)
I will phone UU thanks for the number floss.:j Morecambe FC, Conference Play Off Winners 2007
