h integral "clip" to shut coffeebags - I can feel an experiment with that coming on.
Regular washing line pegs work too.
I've got a huge collection of the fridge clips, but I used to use plastic washing pegs at my parents' house.0 -
The clips we use are the Klippts ones from Lakeland. (https://www.google.co.uk/?gws_rd=ssl#q=lakeland+bag+clips&tbm=shop)
We keep a selection of them in our kitchen cutlery drawer and they're invaluable for sealing bags for use in the fridge and freezer.0 -
Had a lot of carrots that needed using up, since starting this thread I am determined to use every last thing. Had boiled carrots with tea as well as carrot, sweet potato and swede mash.
On another note found a 13 day passed it's use by date yoghurt pot at the back of the fridge and despite once claiming to have a cast iron stomach, I didn't want to risk it. Will say 25p was wasted.Debt Free Stage 1 - Completed 27/08/2020

I'm getting much better at not throwing food away.
When the family were younger I would do "Fridge Friday". I would go though the fridge and "tidy up" and would use up all the odds and ends. Either a risotto, or some kind of "bake" or maybe start with plain pizza bases and an assortment of toppings.
The kids Thought it was great fun and liked to dream up concoctions.
This week I did throw about 1/3 of a bag of spinach away - forgot about it, so about £0.30 worth.
I noticed some veg are looking a bit tired so will need to use them up over the next couple of days.0 -
I'm gonna be boring here - not thrown out any food of late; there was a pear needing using on the dish so Mr LW and I ate half of it each last night; and the couple of parsnips we have left are earmarked for tonight's dins.
There was a piece in the local free mag that came through the door today about "feed your green bin daily" (we have to put food waste in the green wheely bin, with the garden refuse) but I don't have anything to feed it with, so our green bin is going to go hungry.:DIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Threw away a small jar of salmon paste. It's BB date was October!
It might have been ok as it was sealed and it was a BB date not a Use By date, but like I said before I have had stomach issues in the paste and don't want to risk things. I tried giving it away on Olio in October but I got no takers.
85p wasted.
I think the problem that arose here was I am a food hoarder, and also I tend to get ahead of myself-I bought it to make a Jack Monroe recipe (actually I bought 2), used one and didn't really like the taste and then never had a need to make the recipe again so didn't use it.
I feel even more annoyed as if I had been a bit more with it I could have donated it to a food bank or something.
Grrr, will try better.Debt Free Stage 1 - Completed 27/08/2020

As long as the top hadn't popped it would have been fine
You could always donate it to someone who has a cat0 -

I'm wondering about pre-slicing these loaves of bread when I make them and taking out just a couple of slices a time from the freezer and putting straight in toaster in the same way as people can with "rubber bread". This because my bread is quite a bit denser in texture.
Also wondering what best to use for separating the slices of bread in their freezer bag packets I put them into (eg would kitchen parchment paper do the trick?).
Thoughts?
I slice my bread when it comes out of the Panny before putting it in the freezer. I put the slices at angles together, one, one way and the next sideways, so as to try and make them easier to seperate. Then when i want a couple of slices give the bread a short 30 second defrost in the microwave, just enough so i can pull slices apart and put the frozen bread back.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

I did a store cupboard inventory today and I have two things to mention.
One I had to throw away half a bag of self raising flour as it had gone mouldy. My kitchen has three external walls and did use to have a very bad damp problem and having treated it, making a concentrated effort to not let too much steam settle in the kitchen (opening windows whilst cooking) and the use of multiple interior dehumidifiers in each cupboard AND storing open food in tupperwares I am a little upset that this has happened but luckily everything else seems to be ok.
As it was a cheapo smart price flour I will say about 25p was wasted.
Also I discovered that my opened plain flour expired in November. I think it looks fine and my gut instinct is it is still ok to use but I thought I would check on here in case someone knows better.Debt Free Stage 1 - Completed 27/08/2020

All going well so far, I am preparing the veg for Solstice today so will use the remaining stuff to make a risotto for dinner. I am not expecting to have any waste this week as dil is home and solstice will mean a lot of 'recycled' meals!0
