Not paying mortgage broker fee?

I feel incredibly guilty here but the thought is going through my mind. Basically my broker has released the details of what my mortgage is and I've checked online and I can just apply for it myself. It was agreed in principal but I'm so tempted to save £495 and just apply myself even though it's incredibly scummy. Money is tight for me and saving £495 when I'm not obligated to pay other than morally is killing me. What's everyone opinion?

If the broker has any sense, they have had you agree terms before doing the research and giving you the recommendation.
If you knew the fee was £495 before work was started you should use the broker and pay the fee.
If you didn't know the fee before work started and had not agreed terms, the broker deserves what they get.

I have fee agreements, I dont always use them but seeing this post has made me realise I should.
If the broker did not get anything signed then your right there is nothing stopping you going direct but it is pretty poor to have someone start work for you and then not pay them (whatever the occupation) - contract or not, you made an agreement.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. My brokers get the agreement signed prior to starting work. Just in case you get a scummy client that tries to not pay for the work done.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). If you think 495 is stretching you, I don't think your ready for the life of a home owner where a boiler roof leak issues can cost you 1000's
